2015 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event
Chase Smith is a 2017 SS/RHP/2B with a 6-0 150 lb. frame from Marietta, GA who attends Pope High School. Medium frame, lean, athletic build that projects well physically. From the field, fields out in front with a quick transfer and release. Showed some arm strength up to 79 across the infield. At the plate, slightly closed start with a high hand set. Leg lift timing mechanism. Looks to go the other way, short, compact swing with line drive plane and inside hand path. Flashed some leverage in swing with present bat speed. On the mound, utilized three quarter arm slot with a loose arm action. Builds momentum well to the plate. Fastball topped out at 83 with good natural run, controlled well to both sides of the plate. Curveball showed 10-4 shape with good depth and late break. Good student.
