Jonathan Fernandez is a 2017 SS/2B with a 5-8 130 lb. frame from Miami, FL who attends John A. Ferguson. Medium-compact frame, young slender build with solid athleticism, plenty of room to fill out and add strength. Moved well in the infield, aggressive to the ball with solid initial steps off of the bat, gets into good position. Fields out in front, soft hands, good actions and release. Right handed hitter, even stance with slight crouch. High hands set, high back elbow, quiet load and weight shift. Level-line drive swing plane, mostly pull-contact but shows ability to use the barrel and work to the entire field. Patient approach at the plate, shows comfort in working the count, should continue to improve with additional strength and experience. Also pitches, measured, well-timed delivery from the windup, gets good burst down the rubber. Works to a tight high 3/4's arm slot, uses compact arm-action, ball comes out cleanly. Good armspeed, up to 81 mph with fastball, shows some running action. Also worked curveball with solid shape and rotation, had later break and was deceptive offering. Good student.
