Anthony Gutierrez is a 2017 C/OF with a 5-11 183 lb. frame from Plainfield, IL who attends Plainfield South. Medium frame with a solid, athletic build. Frame projects for additional strength. Ran a 7.27 sixty yard dash. Primary catcher, shows a slightly off set start while receiving the baseball. Clean glove to hand exchanges on transfer with releases from a compact arm slot. Baseball comes out of hand cleanly, showing solid arm strength topping at 72 mph. Best workout pop time of 2.19. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing smooth paced footwork while closing on the baseball. Clean, quick glove to hand exchanges while working through transition. Releases from a compact, three-quarters arm slot that produces some carry to the bag with accuracy, topped at 77 mph from the outfield. Left handed hitter with a spread, straight stance and a simple leg lift trigger. Creates good shift into contact with linear lower half actions. Hands comes through the zone on a fluid, line drive plane. Consistently used the middle of the field, but flashed solid bat speed when turning to the barrel to pull side. Creates good extensin through contact producing solid carry and backspin to the pull side gap when timed. Repeats swing well when front side trigger is on time. Good student as well.
