Eric Ortiz is a 2016 C/1B with a 6-4 215 lb. frame from Aguadilla, PR who attends Colegio Católico San Juan Apostol. Extra-large, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength throughout frame. Ran a 7.37 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, receives the ball out front, gets tall but explodes out of crouch well, loose and low set, shows whip to shorter arm action with a tight release and arm strength down, will continue to refine receiving skills. Switch-hitter, starts with a wide base and a high back elbow from the right side. Uses strength well to get the barrel to the ball quickly, generates extension out front with jump off the barrel to pull side. Lefthanded, starts with an upright and slightly open stance with a high hand set. Shows comfort and fluidity in swing with natural lift in swing path and plenty of bat speed. Occasionally gets to front side early, stays short with swing, shows jump to pull side with carry off the barrel. Named to Caribbean Top Prospect List. Good student.
