2016 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Austin Gardner is a 2017 OF/RHP with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Fayetteville, GA who attends Whitewater HS. Large frame with strong, highly-athletic present build. Ran extremely well, clocking a 6.58 seconds 60 yard dash time. Sets up to hit from open stance with wide base and high hands, loads hands deep, gets on close to ideal swing plane to launch position, generates lots of backspin and carry on squared up baseballs with big time bat speed, has home run power and will continue to add more. Very impressive hitting tools overall. Worked out defensively in the outfield, very athletic movements to the ball with easy and efficient footwork, fields cleanly out front and works through well into crow hop, gets off extremely strong and accurate throws clocked up to 91 MPH. Pitched as well, compact arm stroke through the back with above-average arm speed, uses lower half very well and drives downhill with balance. Simple overall delivery, throws from three quarters arm slot, fastball worked 88-90 MPH. Did a very good job throwing strikes and filing up the zone in general. Named to 2016 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase Top Prospect List.
