Luis M. Cortes is a 2017 3B/OF with a 6-0 210 lb. frame from Newark, NJ who attends East Side High School. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and a strong, proportioned frame, incorporates it well. Ran a 7.22 60-yard dash. Primary third baseman, fields the ball out front with two hands, short steps to the ball and works through it, balanced when charging in, quick transfer, higher slot on throws and accurate to first base. Also caught, begins with a low set behind the plate, gains ground with lower half coming out of crouch, front side opens early upon release, quick transfer, lower arm slot on throws but shows carry, around the intended bag. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set at the plate. Incorporates physical strength into swing well, loose and lifted path through the zone showing nice carry to the pull side gap when squared up. Upper body dominant swing, shows a feel for the barrel and sound bat speed through the zone, turns barrel well.
