Robinson Mateo is a 2012 MIF with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Washington, DC who attends Woodrow Wilson HS. Mateo has a slender and lean athletic build with room for continued strength gains. Moves well on the infield, good hands and feet. Takes himself to the ball well and has good defensive tools, good body control and lateral quickness. Short and quick swing at the plate with good balance, switch hitter that is stronger from the right side at present. Left handed swing is very similar to his swing from the right side, but he generates more consistent barrel contact from the right side now. Both swings are quick and short to the ball. Mateo set himself apart from many at the showcase with his baseruning instincts and speed. He gets good jumps and reads pitchers very well. Puts pressure on the pitcher and the defense. Good student. Named to Top Prospect Team.
