The multi-talented Parr is one of the most polished and versatile baseball players we’ve seen in a while. He’s equally at home on the mound throwing any of three quality pitches, at the plate swinging the bat or playing either middle infield position. Despite his athleticism and ability to make hard, consistent contact with wood, Parr’s size and relative lack of speed (7.2) will probably eventually make him an above average hitting and fielding pitcher down the line. We’ve seen Parr touch 94 mph on his fastball, but in Lincoln he was consistently in the 86-87 mph range with sinking action to it. Parr raises up during his delivery and appears to pitch from up on his toes, which gives him much better leverage and plane to the plate than you’d expect from a 6-0 pitcher. His arm works smoothly and his athleticism enables Parr to repeat his somewhat complicated delivery well and throw consistent strikes. Both of Parr’s secondary pitches were quality offerings. His curveball was hard and sharp at 72-74 mph and is and will continue to be a strikeout pitch for him even in pro ball. Parr could have used his deceptive 78 mph change up more than he did but often didn’t need that pitch at this level. If he's not a high pick look for Parr to end up signing with a national power college program where he should become one of their most valuable pitchers. James is an excellent student.
