Phillip Gonzalez is a 2009 RHP/2B with a 6'2'', 205 lb. frame from Montclair, CA who attends Claremont. Gonzalez has a bigger frame with wide shoulders. He has a good build with present strength. Gonzalez pitches from a 3/4 slot with a long arm action. His arm works well and the ball comes out of his hand clean. Gonzalez has arm speed and has a live arm. He uses a high leg kick and gets his hips closed off at balance point. Gonzalez falls off to the first base side and pitches with some effort. His mechanics are pretty clean and gets extension out front. Gonzalez throws a heavy fastball that stays fairly straight. He throws a power 10/4 slider with late break to it. It is a good strike out pitch and he is able to throw it consistently for strikes. Gonzalez guides his change-up a bit and doesn't get as good of extension on it as he could. He locates in the zone well and has a confident demeanor on the mound.
