AJ Newell is a 2024 RHP/ with a 6-3 180 lb. frame from Excelsior, MN who attends Southwest Christian High School. Primary right-handed pitcher, lean athletic mold. Counter rotating delivery with medium arm swing to a high-three-quarters release. Fastball command was a tick above average but the offering shows solid life through the zone. Easy operation with looseness to the actions down the hill through release. Changeup is well advanced, maintains arm speed with turning over a good one that was frequently executed below the zone. Slider has wiffle ball two-plane action at times and is the type that can rack up whiffs in bunches. Curveball has a slight pop out of the hand but shows the depth to dig down to the lower portion of the zone. Shows decent actions with glove at first base and sound footwork. Right-handed hitter, wide base, and toe tap load. Shows decent bat speed with controlled violence through the zone. Level plane and line drive oriented approach. 7.51 60-yard. Great student. Named to the Top Prospect list.
