First 10 High School players are PG

The first 10 high school players selected in this years draft are all Perfect Game Alumni.

Here is a rundown of PG players in the draft. It does not include the many former PG players who were drafted out of college, like first rounders Nick Markakis, David Aardsma and others.

     



The Top 10 Picks (high school players only)

1. Delmon Young (CA) OF, participated in two Perfect Game / Baseball America Championships in Jupiter, FL. His team won the rings in 2000 with Jim Morris (The Rookie) and his brother Dmitri coaching his team. Delmon also participated in two PG Pacific Coast Top Prospect Showcases. He starred for the USA Junior National team.

2. Chris Lubanski (PA) OF, was named the Gatorade High School Player of the Year. He has attended the following Perfect Game events over the past 3 years. PG World Showcase 2000, 2001, and 2002. The PG National Showcase in 2001 and 2002. The PG Northeast Top Prospects in Wareham, MA. in 2000, 2001 and 2002. He played for Perfect Game Royal at the PG WWBA National Championship in 2002. He played in two PG/BA World Championships in Jupiter, FL. Chris has also attended other PG Showcases over the 3 year span. He starred for the USA Junior National team.

3. Ryan Harvey (FL) OF, attended the Perfect Game National Showcase last year. He also played for Perfect Game Royal in the PG WWBA National Championship in Marietta, GA and played in two PG/BA World Championships in Jupiter. He had to miss the PG World Showcase this past winter due to a knee injury.

4. John Danks (TX) LHP, played for the Austin Baseball Club in Marietta at the PG WWBA National Championship. He also played for the same team in two PG/BA World Championships in Jupiter, FL.

5. Ian Stewart (CA) 3B, attended the PG Pacific Coast and played with the Championship Baseball America team in the PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter this past fall. He also played on the USA Junior National team.

6. Lastings Milledge (FL) OF, like Lubanski, Lastings has attended many Perfect Game events. We first saw him as a freshman at the PG World Showcase in 1999. He then attended that event for 4 straight years. He was at three PG National Showcases and 3 PG/BA World Championships. Last year he was on the championship Baseball America team. He also played for Perfect Game Royal at the PG WWBA National Championship in Marietta, GA. Lastings was a star for the USA Junior National team.

7. Jeff Allison (MA) RHP, Yet another prospect who attended many Perfect Game events and starred for the USA Junior National Team. He even attended a PG Indoor camp in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was also a member of the Perfect Game Royal team at the PG WWBA National Championship in Marietta, GA. He was on the championship Baseball America team in the PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter. Allison attended two PG National Showcases and two PG Northeast Top Prospect Showcases in Wareham, MA. He has attended other PG events along the way.

8. Matt Moses (VA) 3B, attended the Perfect Game World Showcase along with his brother Mitch. He played in the PG/BA World Championship for Team Florida USA. In fact it was his performance in Jupiter last fall that started people thinking first round.

9. Chad Billingsley (OH) RHP, joins Allison and second round pick Ryan Sweeney having attended PG Indoor camps in Cedar Rapids, IA. He has been to many PG events including playing for Perfect Game Royal at the PG WWBA National Championship in Marietta. He went to two PG National Showcases and played in two or three PG/BA World Championships in Jupiter. He also attended the PG Midwest Top Prospect Showcase and other PG events. Billingsley was yet another star on the USA Junior National team.

10. Eric Duncan (NJ) 3B, played in two PG/BA World Championships and the PG National in Marietta, GA.

Also first round supplemental picks Luis Atilano, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and Adam Jones attended Perfect Game events.

Luis Atilano (PR) RHP, played for Team Puerto Rico in the PG/BA World Championship this past October.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia (FL) C, has been to many Perfect Game events including the PG Sunshine, two PG Nationals, 2 or 3 PG/BA World Championships and he was another member of the Perfect Game Royal team in the PG WWBA National Championship in Marietta. Jarrod was yet another star performer on the USA Junior National team.

Adam Jones (CA) SS, has been to several Perfect Game events including the PG Pacific Coast Showcase, the PG World Showcase in Ft Myers, FL and the PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter.

James Houser (FL) LHP, PG National at Tropicana, PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter.

Jay Sborz (VA) RHP, played in two PG/BA World Championships.

Jo Jo Reyes (CA) LHP, played in the PG Pacific Coast Showcase.

Ryan Sweeney (IA) OF, grew up on Perfect Game baseball living in Cedar Rapids, IA. He has attended nearly every PG event possible over the years. Including the PG National Showcase, the PG World Showcase, the PG Pacific Coast Showcase and two PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter where he was the MVP for the championship Baseball America team.

Mickey Hall (GA) OF, was on the 2000 team with Delmon Young that won the PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter. He has played in that event 3 straight years.

Jeff Flaig (CA) 3B, Attended a few PG Showcase events including the PG Pacific Coast Showcase and the PG/BA World Championship.

Anthony Whittington (WV) LHP, played in the PG WWBA National in Marietta and the championship Baseball America team at the PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter last fall.

Estee Harris (NY) OF, played in the PG/BA World Championship and attended the PG World Showcase in Ft Myers, FL.

Stuart Pomeranz (TN) RHP, attended the PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter with the Dulin Dodgers.

Paul Bacot (GA) RHP, played in both the PG WWBA National in Marietta and the PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter, FL.

Matt Harrison (NC) LHP, played in the PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter.

Travis Schlicting (TX) 3B, played with Danks for the Austin Baseball Club in the PG WWBA National Championship and the PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter.

Charlie Fermaint (PR) OF, played in the PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter.

Josh Rainwater (LA) RHP, played in the PG/BA World Championship in Jupiter among other events.

The list could continue for a long time after the top 100. For example pick 102, 103, 105, 108, 111, 112, 116, 117, 120, 121, 129, 133, 134, 138, 142, 148, 155, 157, 158, 159, 162, 169, 175,180 182, 183, 184, 186, 187, 189, 191 and on and on are former PG players.

Last year Perfect Game set the all time record for any organization in baseball with 354 draft picks. After the first 20 rounds, over 170 former PG players have been drafted. With 30 rounds today the record could fall.
