All Star Baseball Academy Wins PCI With a 11-2 Victory Over Perfect Game USA Royal

QUARTERFINALS Perfect Game USA Royal 7, East LA Dodgers 3 Perfect Game Royal continued their unlikely run with a 7-3 quarterfinal victory over the East LA Dodgers. PG Royal lost their first two games of pool play but has now won 3 straight to put themselves in the semifinals. RHP Cory Stahl went the first 4 2/3’s innings to pick up the win, with RHP Myles Anderson finishing up for the save. PG Royal had plenty of offense off 5 Dodgers pitchers. SS James Simmons had a single and Rbi double. 1B Brendon Quon had a single and a double. 2B James Ayala had a 2 run double. AZ Elite Diamond Jaxx 4, California Diamond Kings 3 The first 3 AZ Elite Diamond Jaxx hitters scored in the first inning and 3 Diamond Jaxx pitchers made the early offense stand up for a 4-3 victory over the California Diamond Kings. 3 of the Diamond Jaxx runs scored on sacrifice flys, the other on a double by 3B Nick Evans. Sean Nicol had a single, double and sac fly for the Diamond Jaxx. RHP RHP Freddy Rothermel pitched the middle 3 2/3’s innings to get the win. 1B Tyler Wadell and RF Chase Thomas had doubles for the Diamond Kings. All Star Baseball Academy 7, ABD Bulldogs 2 RHP Brian Budrow carried a 4-hit shutout into the 7th inning to lead All Star Baseball Academy to a 7-2 victory over the defending champion ABD Bulldogs. Budrow struck out 7 without a walk and benefited from 2 infield double plays in the route going effort. RF Curt Miaso had a 2 run home run and a bases loaded walk to lead the All Star attack. CF Braden Wells and 2B Garrett Yoder each had 2 hits for All Star. Colorado Slammers 6, DSA Mustangs 4 The Colorado Slammers took advantage of 3 DSA Mustangs infield errors in the 2nd inning to score 5 unearned runs and hold on for a 6-4 win. A 2 run double up the right centerfield gap by 2B Kyle McFadden plated 2 of the runs. The Mustangs outhit the Slammers 9-4, including 4 extra base hits, but were unable to break through with a big inning. LF Ryan Hanlon had a double and single and scored 2 runs while driving in 1 for the Mustangs. 2B Ryan Benuzzi also had an Rbi double. SEMIFINALS Perfect Game USA Royal 7, AZ Elite Diamond Jaxx 3 Perfect Game USA Royal broke open a 3-3 tie with 4 7th inning runs and RHP Phillip Brown turned in a gutsy complete game performance to lead the upstart Perfect Game USA Royal team into the finals with a 7-3 victory over the AZ Elite Diamond Jaxx. Down to 12 players and with no primary pitchers left, Brown, normally an outfielder, was nearly flawless, allowing 2 home runs to Diamond Jaxx 3B Nick Evans but otherwise allowing only 4 hits and benefiting from great PG Royal defense. 2B James Ayala and OF Ryan Metzroth started the 7th inning with back to back doubles for PG Royal to break the tie. Metzroth later scored on a wild pitch and SS James Simmons drove in a pair of insurance runs later in the inning. All Star Baseball Academy 6, Colorado Slammers 4 (10 innings) In perhaps the hardest fought game of the PCI, All Star Academy gained the finals by outlasting the Colorado Slammers in a 10th inning tie breaker, 6-4. All Star SS Louie Romero hit a hard ground ball up the middle with the bases loaded and 2 outs that the Slammers shortstop couldn’t handle to score the winning run. All Star Baseball had appeared to have the game won in the 7th inning when a Slammers error and a single by C Daniel Butler scored 2 runs. All Star RHP Rene Garcia had been cruising to that point, with 12 strikeouts, but 2 singles, a double by C Marcus Quade and a fielder’s choice sent the game into extra innings. All Star LHP Jeff Davis shut down the Slammers in extra innings to get the win. FINAL In an almost anti-climatic final, All Star Baseball Academy scored 9 runs in the 4th inning and run ruled Perfect Game USA Royal 11-2 in 5 innings. With no remaining pitching, PG Royal threw 2B James Ayala, one of the hero’s of their semifinal victory, and Ayala held All Star in check for 3 innings. On the other side, All Star starter RHP Chad Murray was cutting up PG Royal with a 86 mph fastball and nasty curveball, striking out 8 hitters in the first 3 innings. The flood gates opened in the All Star 4th, though, as All Star hitters rapped out 8 hits, including a grand slam by 3B Brian Budrow. LF Ryan Davis had 2 hits in the inning, scored a run and drove in another and CF Braden Wells also had 2 hits and scored 2 runs. Murray ended up with 10 K’s in 5 innings, the only bump in the road being a 2 run double by PG Royal 1B Brenden Quon. Perfect Game USA Royal SS-RHP James Simmons was named the Pacific Coast Invitational Most Valuable Player. Primarily a pitcher and secondarily a third baseman normally, Simmons, a UC-Riverside recruit, played a flawless shortstop for 6 games, was one of the Royals’ top hitters and on his game off from shortstop, threw a complete game shutout in the 1st round of the playoffs. All Star Baseball Academy RHP-3B Brian Budrow was named the Most Valuable Pitcher. Budrow, a 2005 prospect from Mountain Ridge HS in Glendale, Arizona, took a 4-hit shutout into the 7th inning in All Star’s quarterfinal match up against defending champion ABD Bulldogs. His performance set the tone for later outstanding pitching performances by All Star hurlers Rene Garcia, Jeff Davis and Chad Murray. Budrow also provided the key blow in the championship game with a 4th inning grand slam.

Gavin Johnson (2029, De Pere, Wisc.) handled the bat pretty well this weekend for his CBT Wolfpack 15u team that made a run into bracket play. Johnson is a left-handed hitting first baseman with a physical 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame, showing good physicality throughout the build. It’s a clean stroke from the left side, with feel to deliver the barrel on time and drive the ball working pull-side. He has a feel to rotate well, loading deep with the hands & turning well through contact to impact the baseball out in front. Johnson tallied four hits on the weekend, including 2 doubles and a triple. He plated 3 runs as well.   Devon Hester (2029, Chicago, Ill.) had a heck of a weekend for Chicago White Sox Ace 2029 Hunt. He showed out on both sides of the ball this past weekend, really getting it done at the plate. He finished the weekend 7-for-15, with a double and 4 RBI to...

The #Creighton commit was up to 93 mph with the FB (89-93), while the SL showed two plane break at 79-84 mph. Mixed in CT at 84-86 with tight action in the zone. #UBCMW @MNIcemen @PG_WiscMinn pic.twitter.com/TlrOnNDIcd — Perfect Game Illinois (@PG_Illinois) July 18, 2026 Alexander Kakach (2027, Plymouth, Minn.) of MN Icemen 17U Gominsky displayed intriguing upside on the mound, striking out five over 4.0 innings while running the fastball up to 93 mph with ride. The 6-foot, 180-pound right-hander and Creighton commit paired the fastball with a low-80s slider that flashed two-plane break and a cutter that played well off the mix. Kakach worked with a loose, quick arm from a high three-quarter slot, creating quality movement across his mix while displaying...

On the mound, Orcutt has logged a pair of starts, totaling 11.1 innings of shutout ball, striking out 15. 15u WWBA Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 Noah Rumley (‘29 NC) has been up to 90 so far in this start w/ 8 Ks in 4 innings of work. Really jumps out of the hand at foot strike w/ some ride to it; has also mixed in a SL w/ horizontal action. #WWBA @PG_Coastal pic.twitter.com/OcU57a3Syl — Perfect Game Scout (@PG_Scouting) July 21, 2026 Noah Rumley (2029, Summerfield, N.C.) got the ball for GBC Lopez 2029 15u in their final game of pool play and dominated, going up against a tough lineup in the East Cobb Astros. The 6-foot-2 left-handed pitcher ended up going five innings, allowing only one hit and one run, while striking out nine. It’s premium stuff at the 15u level as he worked easily in the upper-80s, topping at 90 mph in the first. The breaking ball showed two-plane shape in the upper-70s as well. There’s a ton of things to like already and even...

Tyler Osmanski (2027, Frankfort, Ill.) a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed pitcher worked a 7 inning complete game shutout to start off Chicago Elite’s 6-0 weekend. On top of going the distance he allowed only three base runners and one hit. Osmanski has lots of athleticism in his delivery. He keeps his body under control while still being able to have good arm action and great hip to shoulder separation. He works from the third base side of the rubber with a high ¾ arm slot. His fastball was up to 84mph multiple times and sat 80-83mph. He used two offspeed pitches, a good 12-6 breaking ball 65-68mph, and a changeup in the low 70’s.     ‘27 RHP Brett Alkire (IL) punched out everyone across his 5.2 inning masterful outing. He struck out 13 batters and did it on 66% strikes. Has an active arm action and kept the ball on the corners. FB T92 early w/...
