Canes Walk Off In Florida Elite Champ.

A tightly contested battle between Canes Florida 2029 and Florida Flames 16u capped the 16U Florida Elite Championship, with the Canes earning a 6-5 walk-off win on Monday at JetBlue Park Stadium.

“It means a lot to this team specifically because this is their first win as a group,” Canes head coach Alec Bettinger said. “We’ve come up short a couple times, so seeing one go through the hoop here is really nice for the boys.”



The Canes defense came out hot, led by Cannon Tyler who started on the mound for the Canes. Tyler set the tone from the start, opening the game with a strikeout. He allowed no hits while striking out three over five innings. His fastball sat 77-82 mph.

Another strikeout and a pickoff at second base ended the inning.

Race McDaniel started on the mound for the Flames. The left-hander pitched six innings, striking out seven batters.

The Canes carried their momentum into the bottom of the first, as Rylin Rappina opened with a single. Rappina finished 3 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Jack Stancin drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Stancin’s patience at the plate and consistent production throughout the tournament earned him Tournament MVP honors.

“It means a lot,” Stancin said. “After putting in a bunch of work, it’s finally paying off.”

Stopping the momentum, McDaniel struck out his next batter. However, Ryan Killgoar followed with a two-run double to score both Rappina and Stancin, giving the Canes an early 2-0 lead.

McDaniel answered with another strikeout and a pop out to third ended an eventful first inning.

Christopher Marrero put the Flames on the board in the second after reaching on an error, advancing to third on a wild pitch and scoring on another Canes error.

The Canes responded with another strong defensive inning as Tyler recorded a strikeout before a runner was picked off at first to end the inning, preventing any further damage.

The Flames defense recorded three quick outs in the bottom of the second before the Canes responded by only allowing the minimum in the third.

The Canes loaded the bases in the third after Raider Ruiz singled, Rappina walked and Brody Howard advanced to first after being hit by a pitch.

McDaniel escaped the jam by recording a strikeout before a double play ended the inning.

Robby Sloan Jr. doubled in the bottom of the fourth, but the inning ended shortly after with another McDaniel strikeout.

In the top of the fifth, the Canes defense retired the side in order as the score continued to sit at 2-1.

McDaniel threw back-to-back strikeouts to open the bottom of the fifth, and a ground out immediately followed to continue the defensive battle.

The game shifted in the sixth as both offenses came alive. The Flames rallied first, starting with a double from Brandon Hale. Hale tied the game up 2-2, scoring on a single from Cohen Lucas.

Lucas stole second before Braden Carter lined an RBI triple to give the Flames their first lead. Rennick Massey followed with a two-run single to extend it to 5-2.

Trailing by three, the Canes answered immediately in the bottom half. Leadoff hitter Rappina got right to work, singling to open the bottom of the sixth.

Coach Bettinger said the message in the dugout never changed.

“I just told them to stay the course,” he said. “Some things hadn’t gone our way, but I had faith the game was going to come back around to us.”

Stancin followed with a single before both runners advanced on Howard’s single to load the bases.

“We woke up and finally started to hit,” Stancin said. “We were just trying to get on base no matter what.”

Killgoar drove in Rappina before Sloan Jr. followed with a two-run single to tie the game, 5-5. Sloan Jr. went 2 for 3 in the game with a double and two RBIs.

Howard entered in relief for the Canes to open the seventh inning, striking out the first batter he faced. He allowed no hits or walks over 1.2 innings.

Massey then entered in relief for the Flames in the seventh. He allowed one hit and no walks in one inning with a fastball that sat 79-81 mph.

The seventh inning came to a close with the score still tied 5-5.

In the top of the eighth, the Canes turned a pivotal double play after the Flames batter popped up a sacrifice bunt attempt to third base, keeping the automatic runner from advancing and sending the game to the bottom half of the inning.

With the tiebreaker rule in effect, the Canes capitalized in the bottom of the eighth. Rappina lined a walk-off single to right field, scoring Jake Wohl with the winning run to secure the 6-5 Florida Elite Championship victory.

“It was great to see my teammate get the walk-off,” Stancin said. “It’s the first championship we’ve won this summer, so it was definitely great.”

Bettinger credited the team’s chemistry for the comeback.

“Their togetherness and their want to win for each other was the biggest thing,” he said. “They stayed together, and I was proud to watch them do that.”

Pokers Rally to Capture 16U BCS Title A hot afternoon at JetBlue Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida ended in a 9-1 victory for the Original Florida Pokers 2028 National, defeating SBA Bolts Florida 2028 National on Monday to capture the 16U BCS National Championship. A pitchers’ duel kept the game scoreless through four innings before the Pokers broke it open with a five-run fifth inning. The title marked the Pokers’ second 16U BCS Championship, adding to the championship they won in 2022.
