Cape Cod League Notebook: August 3

Angel Cervantes | RHP | UCLA | Chatham Anglers 

Angel Cervantes has lived up to the hype since arriving at UCLA after turning down a second-round selection (50th overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2025 MLB Draft. Following a strong freshman campaign that helped power the Bruins to the No. 1 ranking in the country for much of the season, Cervantes has taken another step forward this summer, emerging as arguably the Cape Cod League's top arm. Through 23.2 innings with the Chatham Anglers, he owns a 1.14 ERA with 24 strikeouts and just five walks. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound right-hander attacks hitters with a polished five-pitch mix featuring a low-90s fastball, an 86-88 mph cutter, a low-80s slider and changeup, and a 78-80 mph curveball. He pounds the strike zone, sequences his arsenal with advanced feel, and consistently keeps hitters off balance, giving him the profile of a polished starter with significant professional upside. 




Tyler Myatt | 3B | Tennessee | Orleans Firebirds 

Tyler Myatt has been one of the premier power bats on the Cape this summer, leading the league with nine home runs while consistently impacting the baseball to all fields. The Tennessee third baseman has showcased the type of raw power that plays in any ballpark, combining plus strength with an aggressive approach that allows him to drive the ball with authority. With Lindsey Nelson Stadium continuing to be one of college baseball's most hitter-friendly environments, Myatt looks poised to become the next left-handed Volunteer bat to put together a dynamic season in Knoxville. 

Bruce Littleton | LHP | Southern Miss | Hyannis Harbor Hawks 

Bruce Littleton has quietly emerged as one of the Cape Cod League's most intriguing left-handed arms, striking out 21 batters across 11.2 innings while posting a 2.31 ERA this summer. The Southern Miss southpaw attacks from a high slot with a low-90s fastball that touches 93 mph and consistently generates swings and misses, while his low-80s slider features sharp two-plane break and has produced a whiff rate north of 50% this summer. The swing-and-miss ability has translated everywhere he's pitched, as Littleton also punched out 17 hitters in just 10.2 innings for Southern Miss this spring. With a true out pitch, and ++ swing-and-miss traits, Littleton has all the makings of a breakout arm in Hattiesburg next spring. 
 

Dane Harvey | 1B | Ohio State | Brewster Whitecaps 

Standing at 6-foot-5, 270 pounds, Dane Harvey is one of the top power bats returning to the Big Ten. The left-handed hitting first baseman is coming off a standout sophomore campaign at Ohio State, slashing .328 with 19 home runs while establishing himself as one of the conference's top offensive threats. Harvey has continued to flash that same power on the Cape, collecting four home runs and three doubles among his 18 hits for the Brewster Whitecaps. While there is still some swing-and-miss in the profile, Harvey's combination of elite raw power, imposing physicality, and left-handed impact gives him one of the highest offensive ceilings among returning hitters in the Big Ten heading into next spring. 

Peyton Rodgers | RHP | UC Irvine | Y-D Red Sox 

Standing at 6-foot, 180 pounds, Peyton Rodgers has been one of the Cape Cod League's most reliable relievers this summer, converting all four of his save opportunities while posting a 1.14 ERA over 23.2 innings with 20 strikeouts against just four walks. The UC Irvine right-hander attacks hitters with a low-90s fastball that reaches 94 mph, complementing it with a sharp low-80s slider and a quality mid-to-upper-80s changeup. Rodgers consistently fills the strike zone, limits free passes, and has been a steady late-inning presence for the Y-D Red Sox, proving to be one of the Cape's more dependable bullpen arms this summer. 

Andrew Costello | C | South Carolina | Bourne Braves 

Andrew Costello has been one of the Cape Cod League's most consistent offensive performers this summer, making the move from Wake Forest to South Carolina this fall. The right-handed hitting catcher is slashing .361/.448/.557 with four home runs, seven doubles, and a 1.005 OPS through 97 at-bats for the Bourne Braves. Costello has consistently found the barrel, combining quality bat-to-ball skills with emerging power while producing in the middle of the lineup. After the summer he's put together on the Cape, it will be intriguing to see how his offensive game translates to SEC competition next spring. 

Casen Murphy | LHP | Louisville | Falmouth Commodores 

Casen Murphy has turned heads on the Cape this summer, the 5-foot-10 left-hander has posted a 3.55 ERA across 25.1 innings, striking out 32 hitters while holding opponents to a .191 batting average. Murphy cruises with a low-90s fastball that reaches 94 mph and pairs it with a two-breaking-ball combination featuring a low-to-mid-80s slider and a 79-81 mph curveball. Both breaking balls have produced elite swing-and-miss results, generating whiff rates of 45% and 46%, while he will occasionally mix in a changeup against right-handed hitters. The combination of fastball life, two quality breaking balls, and an ability to miss bats consistently has made Murphy one of the more notable left-handed pitching stories on the Cape this summer. 
 

Colin Larson | OF | Boston College | Harwich Mariners 

Colin Larson was a key piece of Boston College's historic season and has carried that impact to the Cape, bringing his speed and athleticism to the Harwich Mariners. The everyday outfielder was selected as a Cape Cod League All-Star this summer after showcasing an improved offensive approach with the wood bat, hitting .257/.395/.400 with three home runs, six doubles, and 17 stolen bases through 105 at-bats. Larson's ability to impact the game on the bases has been a consistent part of his profile, while his improved production this summer compared to his college numbers highlights the offensive progress he hopes to carry back to Chestnut Hill next spring.

PHILADELPHIA – Sunday’s DICK’s Perfect Game All-American Classic was a pitching-dominated affair until the bottom of the eighth inning when the rain started to fall at Citizens Bank Park and Koa Romero stepped to the plate and did his best impression of Kyle Schwarber. Romero wears No. 12, just like Schwarber. He bats left-handed, just like Schwarber. He’s got big power, just like Schwarber. And at 5-10 and a rock-solid 225 pounds, he’s even built like Schwarber.
