Battle For The Midwest Scout Notes

Bryce Urban (2027, Kaukauna, Wis.) An athletic 5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed hitter, who handled the bat well throughout the weekend while showing feel for the barrel and quality bat speed. Stays balanced throughout the operation while showing direct hands to the baseball. There is feel to rotate through the zone and keep the barrel working for an extended period, helping him consistently produce hard-hit contact. He showed the ability to impact the baseball to all fields and remained productive throughout the event. Urban finished the weekend with five extra-base hits and continued to be a reliable offensive contributor whenever his club needed him. He is currently uncommitted. 

Landon Clements (2027, McHenry, Ill.) University of Illinois-Chicago commit put together an outstanding weekend at the plate, finishing 10-for-15 while drawing five walks and consistently finding ways to reach base. A mature offensive approach was on display throughout the event, as he controlled counts and forced pitchers into difficult situations. Starting from a narrow setup, the athletic left-handed hitter works with a twitchy operation in the batter's box, showing feel to stay inside the baseball and deliver the barrel on time. He consistently produced quality contact and showed advanced strike-zone awareness throughout the weekend. His ability to manage at-bats and remain disciplined against different pitching looks helped fuel his production. 



Isaac Habetler (2027, De Pere, Wis.) A polished offensive game was on display from Habetler throughout the weekend as he emerged as one of the more productive bats in attendance. The right-handed hitter works with a fluid swing and direct hand path, staying compact to the baseball while creating leverage through contact. Present strength shows throughout the 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame, and it translates well in game action. He consistently found the barrel and showed the ability to impact the baseball throughout the event, finishing with four extra-base hits and seven RBI. A steady source of offense, Habetler consistently put together quality at-bats. He is currently uncommitted. 

Luke Chynoweth (2027, Cottage Grove, Wis.) offensive upside continued to show throughout the weekend for Chynoweth. The 6-foot-1,175-pound right-handed hitter possesses a lean and projectable frame with room for continued development. He works with a smooth stroke and fluid path through the zone, staying connected while allowing the barrel to work naturally through contact. His hands work well and there is feel to stay inside the baseball, helping him consistently produce quality contact. Chynoweth finished the weekend 7-for-13 with four extra-base hits and seven RBI while continuing to show progress with the hit tool. Currently uncommitted. 

Shane Bardwell (2027, Fort Wayne, Ind.) strength is evident throughout Bardwell's 6-foot, 200-pound frame and shows up well in the batter's box. The left-handed hitter works with rhythm and balance throughout the operation, showing smooth hands and the ability to consistently get the barrel to the baseball. His swing stays on plane and allows his strength to play well through contact. Bardwell collected eight hits throughout the weekend, with five of those going for extra bases, while consistently producing quality at-bats. He showed feel for the barrel, strength throughout the swing, and the ability to impact offensive production over the course of the event. Bardwell is currently uncommitted. 

Howie Porath (2027, Channahon, Ill.) productive weekend offensively highlighted Porath's continued development at the plate. Standing 6-foot, 185 pounds, he has a sturdy frame and works with a connected operation throughout the swing. He sees the baseball deep, throws his hands well to contact, and creates extension through the baseball when out front. Porath consistently found quality contact and showed feel to create length with the barrel in the zone throughout the event. Finishing with eight hits on the weekend, he continued to prove difficult to retire. The offensive profile continues to show positive signs as he develops. Porath is currently uncommitted. 

Nolan Julseth (2027, New Glarus, Wis.) one of the more productive offensive performers of the weekend, Julseth finished with a 9-for-13 line and five RBI. The left-handed hitter works from a wider base and rotates aggressively through contact while maintaining balance throughout the move. Creates quality bat speed and shows notable strength at contact. Julseth consistently got the barrel to the baseball and produced quality at-bats throughout the event. His confidence in the box and ability to remain on the barrel allowed him to contribute offensively from start to finish. He is currently uncommitted. 

Brandon Beasley (2027, Oak Park, Ill.) one of the more advanced offensive profiles in the class. The Illinois State commit possesses a physical 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame with present strength throughout and combines it with advanced bat-to-ball skills from the left side. He creates whip through the zone, stays through contact well, and consistently shows feel for the barrel. The left-handed hitter produced four extra-base hits over the weekend and was a frequent source of offense in the middle of the lineup. There is strength throughout the swing and an ability to impact pitches to all fields while maintaining a controlled operation in the box. Beasley also showed athletic actions in the outfield adding value on the defensive side of the ball. 

Ira Hilbelink (2027, Cedar Grove, Wis.) another productive offensive weekend followed for Hilbelink, who finished with six hits and six RBI while showing a mature approach in the batter's box. The Minnesota commit carries strength throughout his 5-foot-11, 195-pound frame and routinely showed feel for the barrel throughout the event. He worked quality at-bats, stayed under control throughout counts, and consistently put together competitive swings. Hilbelink showed the ability to use the entire field working with natural rhythm in the stroke. His offensive approach and overall feel to hit were consistently on display throughout the tournament. 

Carson Deibele (2027, Monticello, Minn.) was dominant in his start on the mound. Struck out 13 hitters across 7.0 innings of work. The right-hander showed a fluid and repeatable operation while working 83-86 mph with the fastball. He consistently attacked the strike zone and showed confidence pitching ahead in counts throughout the outing. The fastball paired well with a 77-80 mph slider that showed bite, while an upper-60s curveball and changeup with fade rounded out a four-pitch mix. He showed confidence throwing all four offerings and continually kept hitters from getting comfortable throughout the start. Deibele is currently uncommitted. 

Owen Borkowski (2027, Huntley, Ill.) MVP Pitcher honors went to Borkowski after totaling 7.2 innings and 13 strikeouts across two appearances. The Bradley commit worked 83-86 mph with the fastball, showing arm-side run and life through the strike zone. He paired it with a low-70s slider that generated swings-and-misses and consistently kept hitters off balance. There is a clean and repeatable operation on the mound, allowing him to attack hitters aggressively while maintaining command of the arsenal. Borkowski competed well throughout the weekend and consistently put opposing hitters into uncomfortable situations. 

Jacob Coisman (2027, Luxemburg, Wis.) significant upside continues to surround Coisman, who owns one of the more projectable frames in attendance at 6-foot-3, 175 pounds. The Cincinnati commit worked 88-91 mph with the fastball, showing life through the strike zone and the ability to challenge hitters consistently. He paired it with a low-80s changeup and a slider in the 73-76 mph , giving him three quality offerings to work with. The long and lean right-hander created quality extension down the slope and showed feel to work around the strike zone throughout the outing. Coisman finished with 11 strikeouts across 5.1 innings while continuing to show why he is regarded as one of the more intriguing arms in the class. 

Alden Marsolek (2027, Duluth, Minn.) effective throughout the weekend, Marsolek made three appearances and totaled 9.1 scoreless innings while striking out seven hitters. The St. Thomas commit worked 83-86 mph on the fastball with arm-side run and consistently filled up the strike zone throughout his outings. He paired the heater with a slider 73-76 mph and showed feel to sequence the two pitches effectively. The 6-foot, 182-pound right-hander moves efficiently down the mound and repeats the delivery well, helping him stay around the zone consistently. Marsolek continued to keep hitters off balance and delivered quality innings each time he took the ball. 

Drew Stettbacher (2027, North Fond du Lac, WI) one of the stronger pitching performances of the weekend came from Stettbacher, who tossed a complete-game shutout while striking out 10 hitters. The uncommitted left-hander worked 86-89 mph with the fastball and showed quality arm-side run from a lower slot. He paired it with a sharp slider in the 72-75 mph range and mixed a fading changeup in the upper-70s to round out the arsenal. Standing 6-foot-2, 188 pounds, he possesses a physical frame with present strength and showed the ability to hold his stuff throughout the outing. The three-pitch mix consistently generated uncomfortable swings and allowed him to control the game from start to finish. 

Alex Kolcier (2027, Waukegan, IL) A complete-game shutout highlighted a strong weekend on the mound for Kolcier. Working 84-87 mph with the fastball, he showed arm-side run and feel to command the pitch throughout the outing. He mixed a 74-77 mph slider and a low-70s curveball, giving him multiple looks to keep hitters off balance. Kolcier repeats the operation well, works ahead in counts, and consistently puts himself in favorable situations on the mound. He totaled 8.1 innings with seven strikeouts to his credit and continued to show quality feel for pitching throughout the weekend. Kolcier is currently uncommitted. 

Cooper Burnside (2027, Dunlap, IL.) delivered a dominant outing on the mound, striking out 13 hitters across 6.1 innings of work. The right-hander operated at 81-84 mph with the fastball, touching 86 mph, while consistently attacking hitters throughout the outing. He paired the heater with a 73-76 mph slider that showed sweep and proved effective as a secondary offering. Burnside demonstrated feel to change speeds, sequence his pitches, and work around the strike zone throughout the appearance. He generated plenty of swing-and-miss and consistently stayed in control during the outing, showing confidence in his arsenal from the first inning through the final out. Burnside is currently uncommitted.

Alec Harer (2027, Kildeer, Ill.) is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound frame with an athletic build, with a smooth swing from both sides of the plate. He’s a switch-hit bat who plays the outfield with traits to like in the batter's box. He rotates well, with the weight on the back foot, with feel to turn well, working through it, throwing the hands to the ball well. Harer has some feel to impact and can produce hard-hit contact to all parts of the yard. He finished the weekend 9-for-20, with a big-time home run, giving him a .450 average, boasting a .500 OBP with 11 RBI to his credit. Harer handled the bat well overall on the weekend and was a consistent producer in the GRB Rays 17u Illinois - Green lineup. Harer is currently uncommitted. 

Aiden Hernandez (2027, Plainfield, Ill.) has a bigger and physical 6-foot-2, 210-pound frame and build. He’s got present strength throughout the frame, with room to continue adding to it. Hernandez was quality on both sides of the ball this weekend for Walk Off 17u Black. He handled the bat well on the weekend, finishing with a 10-for-16 line, with 8 of those hits being doubles. He drove in a handful of runs on the weekend and showed feel for the barrel, getting the bat on it to produce hard-hit contact. He jumped on the mound for Walk Off 17u Black and went the distance on a complete-game victory for his team. Hernandez went 7.0 innings, with 2 hits allowed, 1 walk, 1 earned run, and 14 strikeouts. The heater worked up to 86 mph and held the low- to mid-80s with some burst out of the hand. It got on hitters quickly and missed bats. He showed a low-70s slider in the mix as well, with high-tilt shape and depth, allowing him to pair the two well and sequence to miss bats. Hernandez is currently uncommitted.  

Cal Schneider (2027, New Berlin, Wisc.) continues to take strides forward on the mound, turning in another great outing for Hitters 2027 this weekend. Schneider, a 6-foot, 150-pound lean left-hander, has a projectable frame with room to keep filling out moving forward. Schneider opened up in the mid-80s on his fastball, holding strong for 5.0 innings. Schneider’s heater gets on hitters quickly, with arm-side life to it, and feel to locate it well. He was able to land the breaker at will, manipulating shape and adding/subtracting. The slider was in the low- to mid-70s. He also turned over a mid-70s changeup with good fading depth to it. Schneider went 5.0 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits, walking 2, and punching out 12 opposing hitters along the way. Schneider is a Louisville commit.  

Rhett Lamovec (2027, Greenwood, Wisc.) has a bigger and physical 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame and build. He worked up to 88 mph on the fastball, holding the mid- to upper-80s with some angle and life to it. The pitch overpowered hitters and played well at the top of the zone. He paired it with a mid- to upper-70s slider that had good tilt and true slider shape to it. He showed a loose and whippy arm action that he repeats well. Lamovec also swung it well this past weekend. He showed feel to be on the barrel and get extended out in front. He produced some loud swings and impacted the ball well overall this weekend. Lamovec hit .429 with a double, a homer, and 6 RBI to his credit. He is currently uncommitted.  

Riley Ackerman (2027, Crown Point, Ind.) is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame with good athleticism, length throughout, and a projectable build. Ackerman spun a gem for 5 Star Great Lakes 2027 National this past weekend. He worked the 81-86 mph range on the fastball, opening in the mid-80s and holding there early on. He flipped a mid-70s slider in the mix as well, with really healthy shape. The pitch generates good sweep, and he could land it at will to miss bats and keep hitters off-balance. He adds/subtracts with the slider as well. He showed a fading changeup in the mix, giving him three legit pitches to beat the opposition with. He threw 4.0 innings of shut-out ball, allowing just 1 hit, walking just 1, and punching out 5 opposing hitters along the way. Ackerman is a Northwestern commit.  

Jack Kunas (2027, Munster, Ind.) took over in relief for Ackerman, going 3.0 innings strong, preserving the shut-out and closing it out. He allowed just 1 hit, walked just 1, and punched out 4 opposing hitters along the way. Kunas worked up to 90 mph on the fastball, with a burst out of the hand. The pitch gets on hitters quickly and induced plenty of swings-and-misses. He also showed a mid-70s slider with healthy shape and depth to it, flashing some tilt and lateral sweep. He showed a low-80s changeup to round out the mix, with good fade depth, giving him 3 different pitches to attack with. Kunas has plenty of arm talent, with good arm speed and a loose arm swing. His stuff projects well at the next level, and he turned in a great outing this past weekend. Kunas is currently uncommitted.  

Ethan Hellengreen (2027, Neenah, Wisc.) is a bigger, physical build at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. He projects well moving forward, showing room to continue adding strength. He took the mound this weekend, working the mid-80s on the fastball, with good angle and arm-side run to it. He showed a sharper and tight breaking slider in the mid-70s, with good depth to it. He manipulates the breaker well and is able to command it to miss bats. Hellengreen also moves well down the slope, with some feel for the front side and good extension down the slope. Hellengreen also added a couple of hits on the day. He’s got good bat speed, creating strength out in front, with an ability to lift the baseball.  

Ethan Forrett (2027, Milton, Wisc.) has a bigger, long, and lean 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame. He took to the mound as a right-handed pitcher, with a longer arm action, creating some whip working through release. He has some deception to the three-quarters slot release he works from. The fastball worked the mid- to upper-80s with some feel to locate it and spot it up. He had some arm-side run to it, flashing sinker shape at times. He flipped a mid-70s breaking ball with bigger shape and depth to it, using it to induce swings-and-misses and force weak contact. He also had the occasional splitter in the mix as well. Forrett went 6.0 innings, allowing 3 hits, walking 2 opposing hitters, and punching out 8 along the way. Forrett is currently uncommitted.  

Sean Dabe (2027, Lake in the Hills, Ill.) is a lean and projectable 6-foot, 175-pound frame and build. He has good athleticism throughout, and it shows up well on the mound. Dabe moves well in the lower half, opening up and creating good push downhill. He works from a higher three-quarters slot with tons of whip and arm speed working through it. Dabe worked the low- to mid-80s with good angle and life to it from a higher slot. The pitch got on hitters fast, and he was able to miss barrels. Pair that with his mid-70s breaking ball that had sharp downer break to it, and Dabe was able to induce swings and misses. Dabe threw twice throughout the weekend, totaling 7.0 innings, allowing 4 hits, walking 2, and striking out 6 opposing hitters along the way. Dabe also got it done at the plate with good athleticism shown in the batter’s box. He handled the bat well, with good bat speed and feel to throw the barrel head to the ball. He hit .583 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI to his credit. Dabe is currently uncommitted. 

Bud Shanahan (2027, Crystal Lake, Ill.) has an athletic 6-foot, 165-pound frame, with good feel for the move down the slope. Shanahan carries the lead leg well, with a feel to get extended down the mound and show a clean arm stroke. He has good whip to the arm, with projectable actions on the mound. Shanahan works the mid-80s on the fastball, with some angle to it. He flashes some arm-side life to when thrown in the lower half. He also has a low-70s breaking ball with big shape and depth, being a pitch he can land for strikes at will. Shanahan threw 2.0 scoreless innings, with no hits allowed, 1 walk, and 1 punchout to his credit. Shanahan is currently uncommitted.  

Colton Topp (2027, Pewaukee, Wisc.) has an athletic 6-foot, 180-pound frame and build, with plenty of traits to like. Topp is twitchy, with traits that project at the next level, showing feel to hit with top-of-the-order traits on display. Topp has a quick leg lift trigger with feel to get the foot down on time, rotate well through the zone, and present the barrel. He was able to do damage this weekend, with a toolsy skill set on display for GRB STiKs 17U Teal. Topp finished the weekend hitting .545 with a couple of walks, and just one punchout.

Jeremy Quinlan (2028, Chicago, IL) showcased rhythm in his swings, pairing elite barrel control with exceptional bat-to-ball skills. Never looked overmatched in the box, consistently staying on pitches and finding the barrel regardless of location. The swing is effortless and repeatable, with the barrel working through the zone for a long time, allowing the baseball to consistently jump off the bat. Finished the event with 12 hits, including a double, while driving in six runs. Produced loud contact in nearly every game and consistently put together quality at-bats, showing the ability to spray the ball to all fields while rarely giving away a swing. An advanced offensive profile with a pure left-handed swing. 

Calvin Johnson (2028, Huson, WI) showed the ability to impact the baseball in every game. Uses a controlled toe tap into a smooth, efficient swing that creates plenty of bat speed and allows the barrel to stay through the zone. Repeatedly made loud contact, driving the baseball with carry to the gaps while showing present strength and power upside. Finished the event with seven hits, including two doubles and two triples, while driving in seven runs. The consistent extra-base production and physical offensive profile make him a dangerous middle-of-the-order bat with plenty of impact potential.  

Reed Rogers (2028, Waupaca, WI) right-handed power bat with some huge upside in the class. Uses a controlled move into a strong coil before exploding through the zone with elite bat speed. Generates a ton of power from a strong lower half, allowing the baseball to jump and carry off the barrel with ease. Creates natural lift through contact and has the strength to impact the baseball to all parts of the field. Finished the event with six hits, including a double and two home runs, while driving in 11 runs. Consistently produced loud contact throughout the weekend, showing middle-of-the-order power.   

Nathan Nowak (2028, Chicago, IL) showed an advanced offensive profile throughout the event, handling the barrel with confidence and consistently impacting the baseball with strength. Uses a simple, controlled move into launch that allows his bat speed to play, driving through contact with authority and producing loud contact to all fields. The strength in the swing translates well, giving him present gap power with even more impact still to come. Finished the weekend with six hits, including four doubles and a home run. Repeatedly found the barrel and produced extra-base damage.  

Lincoln Chandler (2028, Red Wing, MN) combining outstanding bat-to-ball skills with intriguing power upside. The swing is smooth and repeatable, allowing the barrel to stay in the zone for a long time while consistently finding the sweet spot. Rarely gave away an at-bat, showing the ability to stay on pitches to all fields while still producing loud contact when he got his pitch. Finished the weekend with eight hits, including a double and a triple, while driving in nine runs. Consistently impacted the baseball throughout the event, showing a mature feel for the barrel.  

Harrison Hunt (2028, Omaha, NE) shows a rhythmic leg kick that gets him into an athletic hitting position before firing the barrel through the zone. Shows advanced feel for the barrel with the ability to manipulate it to different pitch locations, consistently creating square contact from gap to gap. The hands work efficiently with a direct path, allowing him to stay through the baseball and produce carry off the barrel. Finished the weekend with seven hits, including three doubles and a triple, while driving in five runs.  

Rylan Johnson (2028, Winfield, IL) turned in a dominant complete-game one-hitter, striking out nine while controlling the game from the first pitch to the last. Attacked the zone with an 84-85 mph fastball that topped out at 87, showing quality arm-side run and pinpoint command to keep hitters off balance and off the barrel. Worked with confidence and efficiency, consistently getting ahead in counts and forcing uncomfortable swings throughout the outing. Paired the fastball with an upper-70s curveball featuring sharp 12-to-6 shape and late depth, making it a true swing-and-miss offering and his go-to put-away pitch. 

Luke Schneider (2028, Rolling Meadows, IL) left-handed pitcher delivered a dominant complete-game one-hitter, striking out eight while showing advanced feel for pitching from start to finish. Features very clean, repeatable mechanics that allow him to stay on line and consistently attack the strike zone. The fastball sat 80-81 mph and topped out at 83, showing quality life through the zone with the command to work to both sides of the plate and consistently keep hitters off balance. Complemented the fastball with a low-70s curveball that featured late depth and sharp finish, generating empty swings and weak contact throughout the outing. The combination of polished mechanics, strike-throwing ability, and a quality two-pitch mix made for an impressive all-around performance.  

Daylon Holter (2028, Sartell, MN) athletic projectable right-handed pitcher turned in a dominant performance, working 8.0 innings while striking out 11 hitters. Operates with clean actions and gets outstanding extension down the mound, making the baseball play even harder out of the hand and getting on hitters in a hurry. Fastball worked 82-86 mph, touching 87, with heavy arm-side run that consistently missed barrels and generated uncomfortable swings throughout the outing. Showed advanced feel for a sharp, downer slider at 69-73 mph, confidently landing it for strikes early and using it as a swing-and-miss offering when ahead in the count. The combination of athleticism, extension, quality stuff, and a highly projectable frame gives him all the ingredients to continue making significant jumps.

A tightly contested battle between Canes Florida 2029 and Florida Flames 16u capped the 16U Florida Elite Championship, with the Canes earning a 6-5 walk-off win on Monday at JetBlue Park Stadium. “It means a lot to this team specifically because this is their first win as a group,” Canes head coach Alec Bettinger said. “We’ve come up short a couple times, so seeing one go through the hoop here is really nice for the boys.” The Canes defense came out hot, led by Cannon Tyler who started on the mound for the Canes. Tyler set the tone from the start, opening the game with a strikeout. He allowed no hits while striking out three over five innings. His fastball sat 77-82 mph.
