18U BCS Championship Preview

The 21st annual 18U BCS National Championship returns to Fort Myers this week, bringing together 14 talented programs from across the country, ranging from Ohio and Idaho to several of Florida’s top teams, to compete for one of the summer’s most prestigious titles.

Defending champion Reds Florida returns looking to repeat last year’s success, while programs such as VSA Sluggers 18, FBA 2026, Nelson Baseball School and NLB American enter the event with championship aspirations of their own.



The five-day event, running Thursday through Monday, will feature several nationally recognized organizations and a talented collection of committed and uncommitted prospects in the mix, promising plenty of high-level competition.

Reds Florida will be led by right-handed pitcher Lukas McDowell, who enters as the highest-ranked player in the tournament at No. 285. The 6-foot-9, 245-pound North Florida commit is from Kingston, Ontario. The towering righty has run his fastball up to 94 mph and has struck out 31 hitters across 25.2 innings this season. His combination of size, velocity and swing-and-miss ability makes him one of the premier arms to watch throughout the weekend.

Currently ranked No. 45 in the nation, Reds Florida will begin tournament play bright and early on Thursday at 8 a.m. against 5-1-1 South Louisiana Select on field 3 at JetBlue Park.

Another team entering the tournament with momentum is VSA Sluggers 18. With a 14-5-1 record, VSA has had one of the most successful seasons in the field. They are coming off a championship appearance last weekend at the City of Palms Championship where they walked away as co-champions with Swamp Baseball as the game ended in a 9-9 tie.

Their stacked team features two players ranked in the top 500 nationally: shortstop Princeton Marino and third baseman Xavier Muentes. Marino, a North Fort Myers native, has put together an impressive summer at the plate. The Alabama A&M commit owns a 1.107 OPS and .379 batting average across 16 games while reaching base at a .486 clip. On the mound, he has run his fastball up to 90 mph, adding further versatility to an already dynamic profile.

Muentes, the No. 11 ranked third baseman in Florida, has also been a consistent contributor offensively this summer, posting a .321 batting average and .422 OBP across 24 games. The athletic prospect has drawn six walks, scored 13 runs and added four stolen bases this season. He will continue his baseball career at Frank Phillips College in the fall.

VSA will open tournament play right next to Reds Florida on Thursday morning, taking on IPB 18u Spuds on field 4 at JetBlue Park at 8 a.m. VSA and the Reds will face each other Friday at 10:15 a.m. on field 6 at JetBlue Park in what is sure to be a can’t miss matchup.

FBA 2026 features multiple players ranked in the top 500 nationally. Catcher Gabriel Sabilona of Center Hill, Florida combines offensive production with impressive defensive abilities. The

standout has posted a .355 batting average and .969 OPS this season while driving in 14 runs over 12 games. His athleticism is reflected in the metrics as well, highlighted by a 100 mph exit velocity, 77 mph catcher velocity and 87 mph infield velocity. He is committed to Santa Fe College.

His teammate, right-handed pitcher Pedro Jorge Bisono, has been one of the most effective strikeout arms in the field this summer. The 6-foot-4 Miami native has struck out 39 hitters across 23.2 innings while limiting opponents to a .239 batting average. His ability to consistently generate swings and misses gives his team a reliable weapon whenever he’s on the mound.

Another team looking to make some noise this weekend is 5 Star National Central Florida. They are led by one of the more unique prospects in the field, BHP Leif Edoff. The 6-foot-2, 172-pound pitcher has been up to 88 mph and pairs his versatility with impressive overall athleticism, including a 6.81-second 60-yard dash. He has also shown offensive potential with an 89 mph exit velocity. The Bradenton, Florida native is currently uncommitted and his ability to throw from both sides of the mound makes him one of the more intriguing athletes in the tournament.

Other teams looking to contend for the championship include two-time champion Nelson Baseball School of Marietta, Georgia, and 2024 champion NLB American of Tallahassee, Florida.

Pool play begins Thursday morning across Fort Myers, with the championship game scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Monday at the Stadium at Lee Health Sports Complex. For many members of the 2026 class, the event represents one of their final opportunities to compete for a national championship and leave their mark on one of Perfect Game’s most prestigious stages.

Pokers Rally to Capture 16U BCS Title A hot afternoon at JetBlue Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida ended in a 9-1 victory for the Original Florida Pokers 2028 National, defeating SBA Bolts Florida 2028 National on Monday to capture the 16U BCS National Championship. A pitchers’ duel kept the game scoreless through four innings before the Pokers broke it open with a five-run fifth inning. The title marked the Pokers’ second 16U BCS Championship, adding to the championship they won in 2022.
