Frame/Delivery/Arm Action

Hynes is a medium frame and build with present strength that shows throughout the frame. The frame projects well as he should continue to add in more strength and muscle in a presently study frame that should intrigue. He’s got some athleticism in the move down the slope. Hynes works from the stretch predominantly, favoring the first base side of the rubber with slightly closed feet as he comes set. He has an in-sync move with a knee-to-core leg lift. He has some coil to it before he makes his move down the slope, driving well. Great feel to make his move downhill and control his actions as he moves down the slope. He has a longer and full takeaway working through the arm action. He comes through a medium three-quarters arm action with tons of whip and arm speed. It’s a projectable delivery that will play well moving forward.

Arsenal/Pitch Mix

Hynes has a three-pitch mix with a good feel for all three pitches. He will mix well and find ways to sequence pitches and attack hitters. The fastball works into the low-90s and has been up to 94 mph this spring. The pitch spins above 2,400 RPMs and it gets plenty of late life with running action to it. He commands it well, and the pitch has a good angle in the lower half of the zone. His slider is the best off speed pitch with a ton of feel to spin it. The pitch works the low-80s, usually in that 80-82 mph range, with a spin that climbs above 2,700 RPMs and flirts with that 2,800 RPM threshold. It’s got a devilish 10-4 shape at its best, and he’ll manipulate the pitch as needed. He has a changeup in the mix as well. The changeup will work the 81-84 mph range with sharp fading depth to it, and he kills spin well. It’s just another pitch that he can attack hitters with. He sequences well and finds ways to beat the opposition.

Abilities/Traits To Like

Hynes mixes his pitches well and does a good job finding ways to beat hitters with good sequencing & feel to induce the swing-and-miss. He has high-level stuff and uses it well. Paired with the athletic traits and physicality in the build. It’s a really intriguing profile. He commands the fastball well and does a good job spinning the slider as well, giving him two pitches to really sequence and attack with. He finds ways to keep hitters off-balance and still induce swing-and-miss.

“The Buzz”

While things are still chilly up north of the border, Hynes and his CPBL squad went down to Arizona and played against some of the big league teams' MiLB squads on the backfields. Hynes put together a couple of outings, showing a really good feel for his stuff, coming out and working up to 94 mph against MiLB talent. He did a good job filling the zone with strikes and showcasing his stuff. It was certainly a good showing for the right-hander, who was able to showcase why he’s on the radar of many organizations for this year’s draft.

Summation

Hynes has played his way into draft contention over the past year or so, really moving his way up the board. He spins it well, low-80s up above 2,700 RPMs, which is a really nice offering. The fastball up to 94 mph with a feel to locate it, giving him weapons to attack with, having the changeup in the back pocket as well. He’s listed 123rd on the PG Draft Board after the March update and could very well continue to move toward that 100 mark with some of the buzz that he has found this spring.
