Frame/Delivery
In an intriguing prep arm class, Mitchell’s athleticism and projection stand out amongst a deeper crop. He’s a long limbed 6-foot-3 frame with lots of room to fill out and continue to add strength to his lower half. It’s a bigger, wiry body with loads left to mature, yet the velocity continues to tick up each year due to his distinct movement patterns. The Texas commit has a stretch only delivery just off the third base side, working from a high three-quarter slot and over-the-top release point with a smooth transition down the mound. It’s a dynamic, fast arm with easy external rotation that stays in line with force and mobility. He uses a short takeaway in his arm path that makes it tough to pick up. There is a lot of bend and a sound coil in his process to stay down the mound. His lead leg block does leak at points and forces his direction glove side at points, but added strength can only help firm up his overall delivery. He’s a high end athlete who repeats well from the same arm tunnel. Mitchell’s upside just from a movement, yet controlled standpoint is quite enormous and could point to a big tick up this spring. 

Tools

As mentioned, the fastball from Mitchell continues to climb. It got well into the mid-90s this fall at WWBA Worlds, touching 94 and working 89-92 mph with upwards of 16 inches of Induced Vertical Break that forces whiffs at the top of the zone. It’s free and easy out of the hand with a good angle to his finish and making it tough to pick up out of the hand. The curveball has the ingredients of a true power offering, a shaper 12-6 hook with sharp depth and bite in the 79-82 mph range. From that slot, he gets on top of it real well and manipulates the shape of it with shorter, late depth that eats at the bottom. It mimics heat real well, and while the spin rate (24-2500 RPMs) doesn't jump off the page, his ability to command and mimic it projects well at the next level. The changeup is still a distant third pitch, but is coming around with a good dip in velocity (84-86 mph) and fade to the armside. He’s an athlete with strike throwing ability. You can tab Mitchell as one of the better bets to make a substantial jump in velocity with the ingredients he has in store. It’s the makings of a quality three-pitch mix and a potent FB/CB combo that works North to South. 

“The Buzz”

With his arsenal, Mitchell is a name to tab for the 2025 MLB Draft heading into the spring. Expect a good amount of eyes at Prestonwood Christian Academy following his eye opening 2024 PG circuit. He was one of the premier arms at the National Showcase where he struck out six over two dominant frames. That led into his outing at WWBA Worlds, where he lived in the low-90s and showed the power breaker once again. Mitchell has continued to make jumps over the years, as he was 86-88 just the previous summer in 2023 and bodes well to his overall ceiling. He has a good track record of success on our circuit and can separate himself quickly amongst the prep Texas crop. 

Summation

Simply put, Mitchell is loaded on upside with explosive athleticism and a power two-pitch mix. The ingredients can really pop this spring and move him well into consideration. He’s a dynamic mover with room to fill, highlighted by a fastball that gets into the mid-90s at present and a power breaking ball. His changeup and overall polish will need to make jumps this spring, it will be interesting to see the development of a more east-to-west offering as well as his pitches do play in similar quadrants. However, the overall package helps put him amongst a deep prep arm crop and the upside remains substantial. Don't’ be surprised if Mitchell makes the necessary jumps this spring and establishes himself early on boards.

As the summer travel baseball season comes to an end, over 80 teams will meet in East Cobb, Georgia as they look to end the year with a victory and a trophy at the PG East World Series. The premier event will host 5 age groups of 14u-18u with pool play commencing the tournament on Friday, July 24th, with champions crowned on Monday, July 27th at East Cobb Baseball Complex. The 15u field will feature 26 teams from all over the southeast, including the No. 27 team in the nation from the 14u rankings, Home Plate Chili Dogs 14u Glozier. The Chili Dogs, who also played up in the 15u WWBA last week for increased exposure, have been a very solid team this summer, but are still in search of their first championship win of the season. Gavin Johnson (2029, De Pere, Wisc.) handled the bat pretty well this weekend for his CBT Wolfpack 15u team that made a run into bracket play. Johnson is a left-handed hitting first baseman with a physical 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame, showing good physicality throughout the build. It’s a clean stroke from the left side, with feel to deliver the barrel on time and drive the ball working pull-side. He has a feel to rotate well, loading deep with the hands & turning well through contact to impact the baseball out in front. Another week of Perfect Game baseball concluded as champions were crowned in the 15U, 16U, and 18U divisions of the Southwest Select Championship. After several days of pool play and championship bracket action, three teams rose above the competition to capture tournament titles following a week of high-level baseball. Throughout the tournament, teams from across the Southwest and beyond competed in closely contested matchups, producing standout pitching performances, timely offense, and memorable defensive plays. Easton Vandyke (’27 RHP, RISE 2027/2028, VA) opened Day 4 by running his fastball up to 84 mph, showing consistent strike-throwing ability throughout the outing. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound right-hander paired the fastball with a low-70s curveball and a 75 mph changeup that he consistently kept at the bottom of the zone. Tyler Osmanski (2027, Frankfort, Ill.) a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed pitcher worked a 7 inning complete game shutout to start off Chicago Elite’s 6-0 weekend. On top of going the distance he allowed only three base runners and one hit. Osmanski has lots of athleticism in his delivery. He keeps his body under control while still being able to have good arm action and great hip to shoulder separation. He works from the third base side of the rubber with a high ¾ arm slot. His fastball was up to 84mph multiple times and sat 80-83mph.
