Top 25 Update: February 19

Craig Cozart      Vincent Cervino
The much-anticipated start of the college baseball season did not disappoint as we saw outstanding competition across the nation.  Fans showed up in droves and it is obvious the game is alive and well.  While there is typically very little movement in within the Top-25 after Opening Weekend, there was some shuffling in the Top-10, and we do have a few new teams making their debuts.  There was a total of 16 losses by the teams in the poll last week and weather washed away most of the weekend in the “Sunshine State”.

The No. 1 team in the land, Wake Forest (3-0), took care of business at home as their vaunted pitching staff punched out 33 batters in 25.0 IP.  Texas A&M (3-0) jumped up three spots to No. 4 after their domination at home where they only allowed 1 run all weekend.  No. 5 TCU (3-0) showed their toughness as they swept scrappy FGCU in a back-and-forth series.  Four of the Top-10 teams did take a loss on the weekend.

The Duke Blue Devils were the biggest movers as they land at No. 17, up six spots on the strength of their (3-0) showing at the Baseball at the Beach.  The UCLA Bruins (3-0) are up to No. 16 after sweeping Gonzaga and the Stanford Cardinal (1-2) plummeted to No. 23 after they dropped a home series to upstart Cal State Fullerton in ugly fashion.

Speaking of those Titans (2-1), they jump into the poll at No. 22 after shutting out the Cardinal in game 1 and taking the series on the road.  Dallas Baptist (3-0) debuts at No. 24 as they swept a quality SEMO club and averaged 8 runs per game.  Finally, the Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0) round out the poll at No. 25 and looked dominant on the mound.
