Gabriel Mendoza (2025, Phoenix, Ariz.) is an intriguing young hitter who impressed over the course of the weekend, including a 3-hit day on Saturday. The switch-hitter showcased one of the more advanced approaches at the plate. Early pitch recognition allows Mendoza to lay off tough pitch and adjust to offspeed offerings when needed. Advanced strikezone awareness lets Mendoza work deep into counts and makes him a tough out with two strikes. A short, compact path to contact finds the barrel often. Mendoza possesses quick bat speed with some strength at contact. The power is likely gap to gap long term, but the hit tool has a chance to carry to the profile. Mendoza also showed solid athleticism at shortstop with soft hands. The well-rounded profile can be a steady producer on both sides of the ball.
