The East Cobb Complex in Marietta, Georgia, welcomed hundreds of teams from around the country for the WWBA 18U National Championship. The tournament spanned six days featuring some of the top-ranked players from the classes of 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027.

Michael Mullinax, the No.5-ranked player in the class of 2024, and Canton, Georgia native, helped lead the USA Prime National/ Detroit Tigers Scout Team to the coveted WWBA title this past Friday.

In a close game Friday, the USA Prime National/ Detroit Tigers Scout Team walked away with a 4-3 win over the Chi Town Cream to secure the tournament title. The Tigers battled all tournament, going 9-0 in bracket and pool play, allowing only five runs through their five pool games, scoring 36.

“It's been a lot of fun, especially since I've seen a lot of these guys at Perfect Game events with me,” Mullinax said about his teammates on the USA Prime National/ Detroit Tigers Scout Team.

The squad, this past week, featured players from California, Colorado, Georgia, New York, Oregon, Texas, and Pensivalya, including three of the nation's top 10-ranked players.

“The guys that are from Georgia, I especially know,” Mullinax said. “I feel like everything you do at these tournaments, if there is someone from where you’re from, it's a lot easier to bond with them and play with them really well.”

Mullinax, who attends North Cobb Christian, is a switch-hitter at the plate, barreling the ball from the left and right side. Also committed to play baseball at the University of Georgia, Mullinax is excited to be welcomed to the SEC program come the spring of 2025.

“I’ve had friends who have gone through the [Georgia] program,” Mullinax said. “I love Athens, I have grown up as a Georgia boy, so it's been awesome to be able to talk to my friends that have gone through that program and get their take on it.”

After losing head coach Scott Stricklin, the Bulldogs are now set to welcome LSU pitching coach Wes Johnson. Johnson, the new Head Coach, has already begun to fill his staff, welcoming back Brock Bennett and Will Coggin as assistant coaches.

In July Mullinax is scheduled to travel to Phoenix, Arizona, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks to show off his skills at the 2023 National Showcase. The invitation-only event will allow players to showcase their skills in a variety of different drills. Outfield and infield defensive work, the 60-yard dash, batting practice, and competitive games are among some of the events this highly scouted showcase will offer this weekend.
