Beast of the East Champs: Youth

The talent we previously spoke about coming into this weekend was surely on display in every aspect of the statement, as each Age Group brought outstanding performances and exciting moments that the players, coaches, and spectators in attendance will surely never forget.

TBT National White ran their undefeated streak to 17 and showed exactly why they had yet to be defeated in 2023. They outscored their opponents 56-8 along the way, as their offense kept their foot on the gas from the first pitch through their championship victory against a talented Clubhouse Baseball 9U squad. Adriel Santos took home MVP honors after hitting .778 for the event, while Jacob Brown took home the MV-Pitcher award after delivering four shutout innings of relief in the championship game. He allowed just one hit and struck out six during his outing and proved pivotal in keeping a pesky Clubhouse lineup in check.

The 10U age bracket was full of excitement with enticing battles across the board. The Show caught fire after entering the Gold Championship bracket as the #6 seed after amassing a 2-1 record in pool play, as they rattled off three consecutive victories starting with a 6-5 victory over Nationally Ranked #1 TBT National White. They continued their hit streak by securing a 10-3 victory against a game Prime Baseball-Tallo squad in the semifinals before completing their championship run with an 8-5 win versus a very talented Diamond Elite 10U- Diaz. Levi Rose of The Show and Ryan Spann of Diamond Elite took home Co-MVP honors after helping their teams to the championship game of the gold bracket. Rose hit .538 across his team’s six games, while Spann hit an astounding .625 during his squad’s finalist run. Patrick (Trey) Hloska III took home MV-Pitcher honors after allowing just two runs across his two appearances on the mound. There was an immense of amount of talent scattered throughout the entire field and these two teams navigated it extremely well with timely hitting and well-played baseball. It was an exciting, fun-filled and action packed for all the young players in PCB.

As we mentioned in our Beast of The East preview, the 11U bracket was a bracket filled with loads of talent amongst its participants but the question was could anyone knock of #1 Nationally Ranked Prime Baseball Lujan. It wasn’t easy and it was not the prettiest but they showed exactly why they are the #1. After battling through a couple close games in the early going of pool play, Prime was defeated by National #3 Let The Play-Citi 11U in their third game and needed a victory in their final pool play matchup to advance. They did just that, as Liam Puerto and Landen Davis held a pesky Home Plate Chilli Dogs 11U Glozier lineup at-bay to secure a 9-2 victory. They tallied a 14-2 victory over an immensely talented Central Florida Suns- Bono squad in the semis to setup a rematch with Let Them Play- Citi. The back-and-forth affair would eventually go Prime Baseball Lujan’s way, as they secured a 12-10 victory in the championship. Jason Spray Jr. would take home MVP honors after hitting .533 (8 for 15) across his teams six games with eight runs scored, eight runs driven in and eight stolen bases. Christopher Cabrera did not allow a single run across his 4-and-two thirds’ innings pitched to take home the MV-Pitcher award. It was a complete team effort from start to finish and they showed everyone in attendance what it takes to hold onto the #1 spot.

We mentioned there would be tons of fireworks within the 12U Age Bracket in our Beast of the East preview, well that may have been an understatement. The abundance of talent was on full display from the first pitch, as some of the most talented players and teams battled it out through an absolute gauntlet. Nationally Ranked #3 ZT National Prospects would ultimately come out on top despite losing their first pool play game against Nationally Ranked #4 Prime Baseball Lujan 4-3. They would catch fire offensively in their next three pool play matchups, leading to a 3-1 record and allowing them to advance to the semi-final round against #1 Braves Baseball Academy. The matchup pitted two of the more exciting pitching matchups as Jordan Leon (Braves) and Trent O’Malley (ZT Nat.) got the nods for their squads in this monster matchup. With both pitchers showcasing some of the more powerful arm strength in the age group, runs would be hard to come by. ZT National Prospects struck first as they manufactured a run in the bottom first. Nateo Victorio singled to lead off the game, stole second and then advanced to third on Brandon Manivong’s bunt single. Select Festival alum Kannon Derry would lay down a bunt of his own to score Victorio for the first run of the game. The Braves struck right back in the bottom of the second, as Macgraw Vanwormer turned around a 79-mph fastball from O’Malley for a solo homer.

The teams would trade zeros in the third before the Braves took the lead 2-1 in the fourth, as fellow Select Festival Alum Louis Lappe singled and came around to score on Carson Reis’s RBI groundout. The big blow of the game came in the bottom of the fifth, as Easton Housewright’s ground double was followed up by a Jesus Guerra single to bring Dre Murakami to the plate with two on and only one out. The left-handed hitting California native would battle through the at-bat against Leon before ultimately singling through the right-side to score two to give ZT National the lead they would need to take home the crown in the Beast of the East Super 8 Invitational. It was a hotly contested battle with ranked teams beating other ranked teams, while plenty of players gave members of our national selection committee plenty of things to look forward to seeing as the summer goes on. Nateo Victorio took home MVP honors after hitting an astounding .818 (9 for 11) during his teams’ championship run, while also punching out five batters in his brief appearance on the mound. Trent O'Malley took home MV-Pitcher honors by punching out twelve and allowing just two runs in his five-and-two thirds’ innings on the bump. It was truly an exciting, fun-filled age bracket with tons of talent and a glimpse into the future of the game. If this event is any indication of what is to come this summer- we will have plenty of action throughout the summer as we continue to Grow The Game.

He’s a pretty dynamic athlete who can do a lot of things well, but the bat is the calling card as he just lives on the barrel and has no problem handling all kinds of pitching. OHIO VALLEY REGION (IL, IN, KY, MI, OH) The Ohio Valley Region has a healthy amount of top-level talent, as it features five Perfect Game All-Americans in shortstop Ethan Bass, third baseman TJ McQuillan, two-way stand out Matt Ponatoski and right-handed pitchers Shawn Sullivan and Grayson Willoughby.  The 2027 class looks very strong as well, especially in Illinois. But no one that made their way to Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark could have imagined what they would witness in the Baylor Bears first game against New Mexico State. Enter 6-4/228, redshirt senior 1B Tyce Armstrong with his power stroke and flare for the dramatic. NORTHEAST REGION (NY, CT, MA, RI, VT, NH, ME)  The strength of the Northeast Region in 2026 is the number of high ceiling power arms, led by potential upper-90’s throwers in left-hander Brody Bumila and right-hander Bryce Hill.  The depth of quality pitching is such that two of the top pitchers in the 2028 class, right handers Gavin Chakar (Norwalk HS, Conn.) and Dylan Cunningham (Austin Prep, Mass.) didn’t have a spot on the team.  The weakness of the Region is the increasing number of players who leave to play baseball and continue their school work at Academy programs in the South.  Numerous players that fit under that umbrella would have a place on the All-Northeast Region if they weren’t in Florida or the Carolinas. It was incredible Opening Weekend across the nation with numerous upsets, tightly contested series’ and dominating sweeps. Beyond that, there were generational individual performances, lockdown pitching appearances and record-breaking runs scored as well. It feels like we have been saying this every year for the past decade, but our game is alive and well. The Mid-Atlantic Region lost its only Perfect Game All-American when catcher Andrew Costello left his Pennsylvania high school early and enrolled at Wake Forest for the spring semester.  The Region ends up being dominated by underclassmen, with seven juniors and even a pair of talented sophomores getting recognition. The story of the spring could very well be watching the young power arms in the Region come outdoors and show their talents on the mound.  Pennsylvania juniors Cole Kuhn and Trent Lutz have been getting lots of off-season attention along with New Jersey senior Alex Weingartner.
