Top 10 Team Breakdowns

1. Linn-Benton
The reigning NWAC champions bring back a star-studded group with some of the most high octane arms in the entire conference. Chase Reynolds, a recent Oregon State commit, can pump it up to 95-96 mph with plenty of athleticism on the hill. Brady Baltus isn't too far behind with a potent fastball/curveball mix. Cole Cramer, Durham Sundberg and Titus Dumitru are key offensive returners with solid barrel rates and versatile gloves on the dirt. Trey Nelson is a physical, 6-foot-4 outfielder with plenty of feel for the barrel and showed out last year. Linn-Benton is one of the powerhouses and this season looks to be more of the same with some of the best high-end talent and depth in the conference. Expect another big year from a loaded roster.

2. Tacoma
Tacoma is another squad full of postseason experience and they have the pieces to make a run at the NWAC title. Cho Tofte and Dylan Watts are an electric duo atop the rotation, with both reaching mid-90s and a good bit of spin in their arsenals. Isaac Evaniew also returns to the hull after earning All-Region honors. Ryan Fowler anchors behind the dish with loud defense tools all while hitting to the tune of .328 last year. Drake Anderson, Jeremiah Crain and Drew Johnson are looking to be key cogs in the lineup. Crain in particular has an enticing hit/power profile. Along with lefty Jack Berg in the staff, the Titans are one of the top teams in the conference. They have a well-rounded mix of talent that should do awfully well this year.

3. Everett
Everett is a squad to take very seriously in 2023. The Trojans bring in our top prospect in in Eli Holbert, a 93-95 mph righty with plus traits on a slider and promising splitter. He checks a ton of boxes with the body and arsenal. Thomas Blahous is a redshirt sophomore with a power sinker in the low/mid-90s from the left side. He's packed on size this year and will be garnering plenty of interest. Braden Terry is a plus athlete atop the order, and catcher Drew Biggerstaff could very well be poised for a huge year with traits on both sides. Everett also brings in a solid freshmen class in outfielder Max Peterson and pitchers Alex Hill and Addison Mattix, who could both see time on the bump this year. Peterson is a plus athlete with budding power vying for a crowded outfield spot. The Trojans are a highly touted veteran group and if the arms click, they can make a long run come postseason play.

4. Lower Columbia
Lower Columbia has plenty of postseason experience, and 2023 should be no different. Justin Stransky, Tyler Peterson, Kyle Parkman and Matthew Lewis all return for a solid blend of contact and speed. Peterson can pick it at short, while Stransky is a unit at catcher along with good speed in the outfield from Parkman and Lewis. Both outfielders swung it well last season and can really roam all three spots. Lower Columbia also brings depth on the mound. Brayden Marcum and Mike Schwarz also return as inning eaters coming off strong fall performances. Freshmen arms Owen Luchies and Noah Imboden can potentially compete for innings this season, and Cayden Wotipka has opened eyes with some power this fall. Those are some freshmen to keep a close eye on this year, but Lower Columbia has great depth and tons of competitors and upperclassmen. It is one of the standouts to compete for a NWAC title and take over the West region potentially.

5. Bellevue
The Bulldogs bring in an intriguing freshmen class, including Terrence Hayes Jr., a right-handed pitcher up to low-90s with a solid 12-6 breaking ball and some loud upside. Outfielder Jayden Holloway is another freshman to watch closely with athletic tools and good bat speed at the plate. Drew Welk, Erik Petrie and TJ Armstrong is another crop of incoming freshmen talent to keep an eye on. Welk is a projectable righty while Petrie is a plus athlete roaming center. Armstrong brings a lot to like with a physical 6-foot-6 frame and loud impact at the plate. Along with an enticing freshmen group of 12 players, Bellevue brings back one of the top backstops in the conference in Jack Rhea. He’s an impact player on both sides with an above-average arm behind the dish. Rylen Bayne also returns as a solid two-way with some louder stuff on the bump, working into the low-90s. There is a good amount of young talent sprinkled in that can compete right away. They can be on the cusp of something special for 2023.

6. Mt. Hood
Mt. Hood brings in a collection of returners, impact transfers and freshmen coming to campus. Jackson Dorn and Mason DeVerna are a pair of solid bats that will look to lead the way offensively. Dorn can set the tone with plenty of tools atop the order and sprays to both gaps. Josh Mansur is an enticing two-way talent with some upside on the hill, acting as a closer all while manning the infield. Harrison Howell can be in store for a big campaign after making strides this fall, sitting 89-92 and showing improved shape to his breaker. Catcher Isaiah Chacon is a freshman to keep a close eye on with good catch-and-throw skills and some power from the left side. Corey Davis looks to be an impact transfer from Wright State, as well. The South region is stacked with talent, but the Saints were a serious contender last year and bring an experienced group. They are a battle-tested bunch who can make another run in the Regionals.

7. Lane
Lane has a solid group of arms and returners all over the infield. Bryan Rojas is a name to know as one of the top prospects in the league after earning first-team All-NWAC honors last year. Jackson Elder is another sophomore atop the rotation with a promising three-pitch mix and athleticism. The Titans also bring in a pair of low-90s freshmen in Jackson Kelson and Jackson Bolender. It is an experienced group on the mound and dirt. The growing pains may come in the outfield this season with a young group of freshmen manning spots, including outfielder Aiden Gebhad. Lane still has the pieces to make a run wits its impressive amount of impact starters and key arms out of the bullpen. If the offense strings together some consistent support, look out for the Titans this season.

8. Spokane
Spokane has a solid group on both sides. Liam Paddack, a recent Gonzaga commit, is an advanced strike thrower with real command from the left side. He fills the zone at will and will look to anchor a pretty established staff of arms. Garret Gores is a physical right-hander with a power arsenal at his disposal. Both have earned recognition as Preseason All-NWAC nominees. The Sasquatch also have a solid group of bats in Carson Coffield and Jaxson Davis. Spokane’s arms are deep and plentiful, enough to potentially carry the squad to a deep run in the Regionals this year. Keep a close eye on Spokane this year with some of its top-end talent and depth throughout the roster.

9. Columbia Basin
Columbia Basin has big talent across the board. Outfielders Brooks Rasmussen and Steven Meier are simply dynamic at the top of the order. They are dynamic athletes and well-rounded hitters with good feel to all fields. Dylan Berry is an intriguing arm on the hill topping low-90s from an athletic delivery. Sophomore Harper Huang is a loud lefty stick with good pull-side contact that fits in the middle of the order. Cameron Soliz showed well out of the bullpen last season and can be another solid arm in the backend. After an impressive 2022 campaign, Columbia Basin returns several key pieces and have some upside. The Hawks have good top-end talent and have what it takes to make a huge rise in the standings.

10. Edmonds
The Tritons bring back a good group and some high end talent throughout the conference. Outfielder Cody Ranit is a name to get familiar with. His speed/power combination stands out and his tools jump off the page at points. Anthony Kodama and Colby Holmdahl are another powerful pair of bats that can anchor the lineup. Alex Fernandes' athleticism impacts the game in a bevy of facets. He brings plenty of defensive versatility with a strong arm that plays all over the infield. Edmonds also has some pop-up arms that can make strides this season in Joshua Flaugher. The Tritons have produced talent at the next level for decades and there's more in store for 2023.

Pitcher of the Year: Nathan Leffel - RHP - Fresno City College 2026 Stat Line: 89.1 IP | 12-1 | 1.91 ERA | .83 WHIP | 118 K An outstanding individual pitching season in California JUCO baseball this spring. A model of consistency on the mound making starts in January through May for Fresno City. Worked over 89 innings on the mound and made 14 starts where he threw at least 5 innings. Ranked in the top 5 of California JUCO in wins, ERA and strikeouts. And one of the only pitchers in all of JUCO to reach the benchmarks of 10+ wins (12), a sub 2.00 ERA (1.91 ERA) and 100 strikeouts (118 K). The landscape of the MLB Draft continues to evolve each and every year. What teams value at the top of the draft can change based on the strength of a particular class, shifts in player development philosophy, and, perhaps most importantly, the way organizations evaluate risk and upside. Some trends are subtle, while others become impossible to ignore when viewed across multiple years. For this study, I set out to answer one question: What player profiles do teams value at the top of the draft? To answer it, I analyzed the Top-100 picks from each of the last six drafts (2021-2026). That gives us 600 total selections to examine and provides a large enough sample to identify both the profiles that have remained consistently popular and those that have gained or lost significant ground. 2027 Top 100 Draft Board  Current Favorite: SS Dylan Seward, Norco HS (Calif.) In our first iteration of the 2027 Draft Board, Norco shortstop Dylan Seward ranks No. 1 overall. The switch-hitter is an ultra-twitchy player with a lot to like on both sides of the ball. He is a supreme athlete that should stick up the middle. Explosiveness is shown in all aspects of his game and gives the profiles big time upside.  In the event that Seward does not go 1:1, each member of our draft team selected a player that they think could wind up in that spot. Fifty-Four teams, competing across three divisions in the 14u - 18u age classifications opened up our Fall schedule playing in a five game showcase style format. For the several college coaches in attendance, they were able to get quality looks at numerous uncommitted 27’ and 28’ graduation year class athletes, as well as having the opportunity to watch some of the quality younger athletes as they put their talent on display.
