UBC West Scout Notes: Day 1

Austin Nye (2024, Roseville, Calif.) was sensational in a classic pitcher’s duel for Alpha Prime 2024. The Vanderbilt commit struck out 15 15 and gave up just three hits and one walk over 6 1/3 innings. Simply dominant performance, struck out the side the first three frames with overwhelming stuff. Fastball sat 91-93 mph and topped 95 with heavy life through the zone. Flashed his signature 12-6 curveball with tight depth and immediate break out of the hand. Gets really extended on his front side and hides it at the perfect release point. Also showed typical feel for his low-80s tumbling arm-side changeup that was firm in its shape. Nye also flashed a high-70s slider that had some slurvy action to it, which can make for an improved fourth pitch. The feel and stuff continue to trend up and it’s a high profile in the class. His command of a true three-pitch mix stands out with any arm in any class. The competitive nature this time around was immediate, as he competed from the first pitch and kept that same intensity. Nye was spectacular and is once again in store for another loud summer.
