Andrew Bennett (2027, Mobile, Ala.) had a loud first two days in Hoover, and it was going to be tough to outshine the performances he put on both on the mound and at the plate. After going two innings early in the tournament, the young right-hander came back for another two-inning appearance and this time did something he had never done, running the fastball up to 88 mph while living in the mid-80s for another two-inning outing. The fastball gets on hitters quick with a very clean delivery that projects for more velocity moving forward as we have seen him do, making progress each time we see him. It is not just the fastball that hitters have to worry about, as he continues to throw the breaking ball effectively and as hard if not harder than most kids throw their fastball. The late break on the low-70s breaker projects as well if not better than the fastball. If the pitching wasn’t enough, Bennett added his second home run once again driving the ball deep over the left field wall.
