HS Rankings Update: March 29

Photo: Dylan Lesko (Perfect Game)
It’s only been a week since the last update but as we get closer to the entire country being under way, things have heated up across the areas where baseball has been full-go already. Ranked teams within the state of Florida have begun to play one another, league play in California has begun to pit some of the best in the country in three-game series, and a variety of tournaments have put some of our top teams to the test.

Orange Lutheran (Calif.) continues to hold onto the top spot as they won another Trinity League series, albeit in pretty tight fashion against a talented Mater Dei team. Where things shook up a bit is right behind them as Buford (Ga.) surges up to the No. 2 spot riding an 18-0 start to the spring and what looks to be a team firing on all cylinders. IMG Academy (Fla.) drops a spot to the No. 3 spot after they fell in extras to a newly-ranked Brother Rice team but managed to slug their way to three more wins after it. OLSM (Mich.) is close to kicking their season off and stay at No. 4, while Stoneman Douglas (Fla.) slipped to No. 5 behind a tough loss this past week.

Some minor shifting happened within the next few ranked teams, but the big story is the climb inside the Top 10 of Tompkins (Texas), who sits at 17-0 and seems to be widely regarded as the top team in Texas right now. Sierra Canyon (Calif.) is a team that hasn’t stopped trending up since their spring began and their 17-0 start with an impressive 17 runs allowed across those games has them just outside the Top 10 at No. 11. Combine Academy (N.C.) climbs back to the No. 13 spot after winning a version of the PG High School Showdown in Panama City Beach this weekend, while Buchanan (Calif.), Lake Travis (Texas) and Berkeley Prep (Fla.) all climbed to spots inside the Top 20, with the latter picking up a big win over a strong Tampa Jesuit team.

Servite (Calif.) had dropped a healthy amount in last week’s rankings but storms back to a good spot after a really impressive sweep of Santa Margarita Catholic, and teams like Yucaipa (Calif.), Rockwall-Heath (Texas) and Hartselle (Ala.) all made very strong climbs this week in the rankings. Three new teams join the Top 50 this week starting with Brother Rice (Ill.), who debuts at No. 22 after a 7-0 start which included a win over IMG Academy and some other talented programs. Doral (Fla.) comes into the rankings at No. 31 after winning the inaugural Gulf Coast High School Showdown and Keller (Texas) makes their way in after back-to-back wins over Southlake Carroll.

Scott Wins MVP Two Ways

Jim Salisbury
Article Image
PHILADELPHIA – When the folks at Perfect Game reached out to invite him to pitch in the 2026 PG All-Star Game for rising sophomores and juniors, Cullen Scott had one request. “You mind if I get a couple of at-bats, too?” Along with his dad, Scott traveled from the family’s home in Texas to Citizens Bank Park. The trip proved to be a huge success as he starred on the mound and at the plate and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. Scott, 16, pitched a scoreless first inning and struck out two. In the fourth inning, he belted a grand slam six rows up into the left-field seats to lead the National team’s 6-1 win over the American team. “He showed us why he’s here as a pitcher and a hitter,” said Greg Sabers, PG’s vice president of scouting and showcases. "He’s one of the top pitchers here, but he’s too good a...

WWBA Underclass Scout Notes: Day 3

Perfect Game Staff

WWBA Underclass Scout Notes: Days 1-2 Richard Cruz Iii (2028, Chandler, Ariz.) has had a good weekend offensively, driving balls to the gaps with consistency. The barrel accuracy and fast hands stand out as the swing is super direct to contact and he can whip it with consistency. It’s a solid package of offensive tools that give upside at the middle infield position.    ‘28 OF Thomas Shank (CO) comes thru again with an RBI knock to secure the run rule. Really moves the barrel around w/ excellent B2B. #WWBAWorlds @PG_FourCorners https://t.co/22TfZij9ZV pic.twitter.com/lEFBce5Zii — Perfect Game Scout (@PG_Scouting) October 3, 2026 Thomas Shank (2028, Castle Pines, Colo.) had two more hits during the 8am slot and continues to shine in terms of the hit tool. He’s an athletic outfielder with a really pretty stroke that projects nicely. It’s an extremely...

Gage McRae (‘27 NC) obliterates this ball well over the LF wall and into the top of the trees for a solo shot💣 evident power tool being put on display from the @PG_Uncommitted prospect #WWBAWorlds@PG_Coastal https://t.co/AFKGSrGz8n pic.twitter.com/RbwgsUK2yi — Perfect Game Scout (@PG_Scouting) October 2, 2026 Gage McRae (2027 Mount Gilead, NC) certainly put his name in the conversation for longest HR during Underclass Opening Day, as the uncommitted catching prospect finished his night by simply demolishing a moonshot into the trees well above the LF wall at Fort Myers High School. Strength is clear for the coastal kid standing at 6-foot, 195 pounds with power generated from the lower half. Starting from a slightly crouched, quiet base, McRae displays dangerous barrel whip and to say he impacts it with authority would be an understatement. It’s safe to say he can put...

And I think this one proved that he is in that category while in Chicago last weekend. He’s athletic, he moves well on the mound and rolled out throwing 90-94 for 3+ innings. Spun sharp breaking balls with distinct shapes including a couple sliders north of 3000 RPM. There’s a...
