16u Battle for the Midwest

Starters 16U Black got off to a hot start in their first game of tournament, winning by a score of 6-0 and leaving Illinois Lightning – Hart hitless until the very last inning. The Lightning hitters were left perplexed at the plate by left-hander Jaden Case (2023, Shakopee, Minn.), who tossed five no-hit innings for the Starters. Case was dealing in this one, as he struck out nine opposing batters and walked just two. He showed excellent feel for his curveball from the very first pitch, and he was comfortable throwing it in any count. He works exclusively from the stretch and comes from a three-quarters slot, utilizing a long and offline arm action. He lands closed with his stride foot and throws across his body some, and he repeats the delivery very well. His fastball sat 78-81 mph, while his curveball was thrown in the low-70s and was certainly his out pitch. The curveball showed big, 11-5 shape with two-plane movement, and it generated double-digit swings and misses during the contest.
