16u WWBA Brings The Talent to Georgia

The second installment of the year’s largest national tournament kicks off on July 15, when the 18th annual 16u WWBA National Championship begins with over 428 teams ready to battle for title rights. Teams from 33 different states, the District of Columbia, Canada and Puerto Rico will all participate in the event, which guarantees at least seven games for all teams. 
 
The 16u WWBA National Championship is not only the single most attended event of Perfect Game’s year-long calendar, but also marks the climax of the 16u travel ball season and draws the largest talent pool the country has to offer. 
 
Georgia, Florida and Texas-based teams lead the way in the raw number of rostered teams, yet have only housed the winning team in three of the last 10 16u Championships. Other states with a large presence at the tournament include Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and New York, to name a few. 
 
In total, 17 of the country’s top-20 ranked players will participate in the tournament, as will 82 players in the top 100. Alongside them are a vast array of both top-500 and top-1000 prospects, who represent some of the most talented teams our nation has to offer. 
 
Thomas White headlines both the class and player pool as the No. 1 overall rated player, who will suit up for Legends Showcase. Second-ranked Maxwell Clark (Vanderbilt commit) and Cam Collier (Louisville commit), who also participated in last week’s 17u National Championship, round out the top-three players at the event. 
 
5 Star National Burress possesses five of the top-50 players at the event and are among the favorites to make a real run come bracket play. Collier, James Hays (Georgia commit), Riley Jackson (Florida State commit), Drew Burress and Trenton Lape (Louisiana State commit) are the team’s top-rated players. 
 
Last year’s champions, Canes National, also have an eye-catching presence in this year’s field, with six players among the tournament’s top-70. Cal Randall (UCLA commit), Kevin McGonigle (Auburn commit), and Evan Haeger (Alabama commit) will try to lead the Canes to back-to-back national championships. 
 
Other clubs with notable company in the event’s top ranks include Top Tier Roos American, USA Prime National, Resmondo Baseball, South Charlotte Panthers, East Cobb Astros Texas Orange, Dirtbags Camo, Artillery Scout Team and the Georgia Jackets.
 
With so much on the line, including among the largest opportunity to prove yourself in front of collegiate and professional scouts, the 16u National Championship will produce some of the most competitive baseball our country has seen all summer. Only the nation’s best will duel it out in this all-time slugfest.

Pool play for all rostered team begins on Thursday and runs through Tuesday afternoon. Pool winners will advance to bracket play, which also begins Tuesday afternoon, in a bracket with teams seeded 1-55. Wednesday will host the second, third and quarterfinal round of playoffs, leaving the semifinals and championship games for Thursday morning/afternoon.

That feels especially true in today’s amateur game where velocity, pitch design and high-level training in general are being introduced earlier than ever, allowing young pitchers to develop impactful stuff at a faster rate than younger hitters can consistently catch up to it.
