Jackson Evers (2023, Madison, Miss.) has been missing bats in large quantities of late and his brief three-inning start on day one was more of the same as he punched out eight and only allowed a single hit and a single walk. A 6-foot-4, 200-pound righthander, Evers is both physical and athletic giving him the strength in the lower half to repeat and the athleticism to power down the mound with the explosiveness that he has. He’s got plus arm speed already on both of his offerings working from a slightly extended three-quarter slot and it gives him the ability to tunnel the pitches well. The fastball opened up at 86-88 mph, settling around the mid-80s, but he elevated it with confidence and went right after hitters in the upper part of the zone. The best pitch however is the slider with devastating lateral bite to it as he maintains arm speed and gets significant spin to it in the low-80s already. The combination of physical projection, athleticism, arm speed and quality of stuff makes for a very intriguing upside profile to monitor.

Nick Robert (2023, Stuart, Fla.) is an impressively physical 6-foot-6, 205 pounds and he showed things to like on both sides of the ball here early on in the event. On the mound he worked four shutout innings, allowing one hit and walk a piece while striking out six. He works from a slightly lower three-quarters slot giving heavy traits to a fastball up to 87 mph while getting good extension down the mound and missing bats with it. While there’s some effort at times to the delivery and he used almost only fastballs in the look, he did flash good bite and depth to a slider that he’s working on commanding. Offensively he’s just a physical showing explosiveness to and through contact while also proving he can adjust to pitches down in the zone with good use of his hands and an innate handle of the barrel that pairs well with his ability to impact it.
