Firecracker Finale Scout Notes: Day 1 & 2

Jackson Bradfield (2024, Canton, Ga.) is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound highly-ranked outfielder who plays for East Cobb Baseball. Bradfield proved why he is highly-ranked this weekend, as he hit .500 over the three-game slate with five total bases, two runs scored, and an RBI. At the plate, the lean and athletic Bradfield starts with a square stance with hands outside his chest. He deploys a subtle load with his hands then stays very short through the hitting zone with feel for the barrel, hand-eye coordination and power to the gaps. A good athlete, Bradfield moves well on the bases and in the outfield where he displays range and quick reads on results hit his way. Jackson’s arm also plays in a corner outfield spot as he regularly produces hard, accurate throws to bases with carry. A sophomore in the fall at Cherokee High School in his hometown, Bradfield is currently ranked inside the top-100 outfielders in the 2024 class, and inside the top-10 outfielders in the ’24 class for his home state.

Bradfield’s teammate, Sean McDonald (2023, Woodstock, Ga.), is a 5-foot-8, 175-pound highly-ranked outfielder in the 2023 class, yet was excellent on the mound for East Cobb Baseball on Saturday afternoon at East Cobb. Sean would pitch all four innings needed to complete the mercy-rule win, to the tune of three hits, no runs or walks, and six punchouts. With an outing that lasted 58 pitches, McDonald stayed on the attack delivering two-thirds of them for strikes. To further illustrate McDonald’s dominance on the mound Saturday, Sean would work ahead of two-thirds of the hitters he faced, garnering plenty of swing-and-miss and soft contact his defense would handle with ease. To complete his assignment, McDonald showcased a repertoire of a fastball in the upper-70s, a changeup with fade in the low-70s, and a curveball with shape and depth in the high-60s. McDonald uses a projectable arm action that releases from a three-quarter slot, and clean mechanics that only point to more good things to come down the road on the bump. Lastly, Sean continues to display keen control and developing command of his pitches as he did this weekend, as he now has 15 K’s to only two walks over 22 innings of work in 2021.
