Battle of the Southeast Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3
Ashton Crowther (2022, New Port Richey, Fla.), a 6-foot-4, 200-pound left-handed pitcher, threw five shutout innings to get the complete game win for the East Cobb Astros 17u. The University of Miami commit moved the ball around the zone with a three-pitch mix, giving up four hits and striking out seven. Two of the four hits he gave up came in the first inning after only five pitches, as Bigstix Baseball ’22 came out swinging. After his nine-pitch first inning, Crowther began mixing in his secondary pitches to induce weak contact and record the seven strikeouts over the last four innings. His fastball consistently sat in the upper-80s with a high of 90 mph from a high three-quarter slot, a fading changeup and a sweeping slider in the mid-80s. Crowther finished his five innings of work on 58 pitches with a 72% strike rate, in front of a small contingent from the Miami coaching staff who were in attendance.
