Soph. Coastal Fall Scout Notes: Days 1 &2

Todd Coffey
Mason Chapman Mays (Taylorsville, NC 2023) was seeing the ball well today. The uncommitted outfielder playing for the 5 Star Carolina 16u National team hit a shot down the left field line in his first at bat just missing a homerun by a few feet, but cruised into second base for a stand-up double. Finished the day going one for three with two runs scored and a double.

Tanner Kaler (Concord, NC 2023) came in to pitch in the third inning and proceeded to strike out two. The uncommitted left-handed pitcher plays with a quick tempo for the 5 Star Carolina 16u National team and goes right after the hitters by keeping them guessing all game. Kaler moved the fastball anywhere he needed the ball to go. Finished pitching four innings and only gave up one hit with six strikeouts.

Will Palmer (Lynchburg, VA 2023) was a spark for his team as he helped them cruise to an easy win. The uncommitted outfielder, who plays for the Dirtbags 16u Platinum, smoked a line drive in the bottom of the fourth inning to the left center gap for a stand-up double scoring two runs. Palmer finished going one for three with two RBI and a run scored.

Jason Mack (Raleigh, NC 2023) plays for the Virginia Elite National 16u and is an uncommitted shortstop who had a great day at the plate. In the top of the sixth inning, with two on and one out, he crushed the ball over the centerfielder’s head and the race was on. Mack used his speed around the bases for a stand-up, inside the park homerun scoring three runs. Finished going two for three with a homerun and three RBI.

Andrew Market (Ashburn, VA 2023) had a very impressive day from the mound to the plate. The uncommitted shortstop, who plays for the Virginia Elite National 16u team, got it started in the bottom of the first inning by hitting a liner to right field with bases loaded to score the first run of the game. Market came in to pitch in the top of the fifth and made it look easy going one, two, three with one strikeout in the bottom of that inning. With a tied game and the winning run at third, he came up to bat and smoked a double in the left center gap for the walk off win. Finishing the day going two for three with two RBI and a double.

Roman Keith (Selbyville, DE 2023) plays for the DCP 2023 National team and is an uncommitted outfielder. Leading off in the second inning, Keith got his team going with a shot in the left center gap. The ball bounced off the warning track for a ground rule double that just missed a homerun by a couple of feet. Keith has a great eye at the plate and was hitting the ball hard all game going one for two with one run scored.
