14u South Scout Notes: Day 1 & 2

Standing at 6-2, 155 pounds, Pryce Bender (2024, Edmond, OK) is a young, lean framed athlete for Oklahoma Mudcats 14U. Listed as a primary shortstop, he saw time at multiple positions and displayed the ability to play in the infield and in the outfield. He has smooth actions at shortstop and semi-soft hands that will get better over time. At the plate, he starts with an upright and open stance with a leg kick trigger. He swings with intent, has a level bat path and makes contact out front with the barrel head. Bender also saw time on the mound. The arm works well, with a longer circle in the back and some extension out front. The fastball was 79-81 mph with a curveball in the low 70’s. Bender is a prospect that will catch the attention of colleges over the next four years.

Logan Wade (2023, Newcastle, OK) came out of the bullpen for Skills Baseball 14U on day one action. He worked 3 1/3 innings, allowed no hits and punched out two. The delivery had some effort but was controlled upon release. He threw from a high three-quarters arm slot with a deeper circler in the back, created some plane to the fastball and located two pitches for strikes. He worked his fastball in the zone at 78-82 mph and used a curveball that had 11-5 break at 69 mph.

Owen Coil (2024, Stillwater, OK) is listed as a primary third baseman for the Premier OKC Athletics 14U Navy. He starts with a square, up right stance, works into a Gary Sheffield type hand load and gains ground with his leg kick. He showed to have a pull side approach in each at-bat with a balanced swing upon contact. In his first plate appearance of the tournament, hitting in the No. 3 hole, he got the bat head out front and ripped the baseball for a double to the right center field gap. Coil stands at 5-8, 145 pounds and has plenty of room to grow and fill as he matures.

Another Premier OKC Athletics 14U Navy hitter stood out at Tuttle High School on day one action in Carson Beam (2024, Edmond, OK.) He went 2 for 3 at the plate with four RBI. He started with a square stance and a handset just above the shoulder. The hands and backside work well together as they are timed up properly during his load. He has linear movements after his toe tap trigger and does a good job of staying balanced throughout. In his first plate appearance Beam hit a deep shot to the right center field gap and followed that with a hard ground ball up the middle in his third at-bat.

An intriguing arm for OK Fuel 14U is Brady McAdoo (2025, Tuttle, OK). The young righthanded pitcher begins with a small gather step into a leg kick that goes to his chest. He throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a longer circle in the back. He was able to control the fastball to both sides of the plate while topping out at 77 mph. McAdoo pitched four innings, allowed two hits and struck out three. The frame is young and lean with room to add strength and size as he matures.

Outfielder Tristan Bittle (2024, Arlington, Texas) is a fast twitch athlete that plays for 5 Star Performance 14U. At the plate, he begins with an even and slightly open stance, a high handset with a high back elbow. The young righthanded hitter shows present bat speed and does a nice job of staying short to the baseball and long through it at contact. Hitting in leadoff spot, Bittle started off the game with a liner over the third baseman’s head for an easy standup double. He followed that with another line drive to left center field for a single in his second plate appearance. The future is bright for Bittle and it will be fun to watch him grow over the next four years at Martin High School.

Cole Cruz (2023, Shady Shores, Texas) led the way for USA Prime Brewer. The young righthanded hitter shows a good feel for the barrel with some lift in his swing. The swing is simple and easy, works well and should continue to improve as he develops at Denton Guyer High School. He does a good job using his lower half and staying linear upon contact. He would single in his first plate appearance and would follow that with a single to right field in his second at-bat.

Lefthanded hitter Aiden Sims (2024, Forney, Texas) brings a smooth swing to the plate with a quite approach. Sims keeps the barrel in the zone for a long time and covers the outside well and is able to get his hands to an inside pitch. He has the ability to hit to all fields and showcased that with a backside double to left field in his first at-bat and hit a go ahead double to right center field in his third plate appearance. Standing at 6-0, 145 pounds, Sims has room to fill out his frame over time.

Cohl McCoy (2024, Fort Worth, Texas) led the way for USA Prime National 2024 going 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. In his first at-bat he hit a single to left field and then stole second base. In his second at-bat he would single through the six-hole and later come around to score. In his third plate appearance he smashed a double to the left field fence that left the bat in a hurry. McCoy has quick hands and the swing has intent. Defensively, he has soft hands and with above average footwork and a playable arm at second base.

Every successful team has talent, but the teams that make great summer ball runs often have something more. For Furia Prospects 2030, that difference has been a consistent commitment to playing for one another. The Texas-based team earned a 4-0 victory over East Cobb Astros 14U to secure their spot in the semifinals, combining dominant pitching with timely offense and another complete team performance. Christian Choe set the tone on the mound, allowing just two hits while striking out three over 4.2 innings before Blaine Jackson closed out the final four outs to preserve the shutout. At the plate, Brody Peterson paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBI, while Mark De Leon and Jancarlos Nunez each drove in a run. Through these tournament games, Peterson has emerged as one of the team's most consistent hitters, batting .750 while continuing to deliver in key moments. Yet...

2026 MLB Draft Reports: 100-299 | 200-299 | 300-399 | 400-500 1. Roch Cholowsky, SS, UCLA R-R, 6-2/202, Chandler, AZ Previously Drafted: Never Drafted   Roch Cholowsky has consistently ranked at the top of the class throughout the cycle due to the safety and upside of the profile. Defensively, he is a plus defender at shortstop with soft hands, consistent actions, and quality range. Not only should he stick at the position long term, he should excel there at the next level. Offensively, there is a strong mix of hit and power potential from the right side of the plate. The swing is a bit unorthodox with a shorter finish, but Cholowsky consistently finds the barrel and drives the ball with authority to all fields. He has strong bat to ball skills with impact. He has walked more than stuck out during his collegiate career, giving him a high on-base ability. The run tool is the...

The fastball comes out of the hand easy and got up to 97 mph, working in the mid-90s throughout. He pairs it with a firm changeup at 89-90 with some fading depth to the arm side and also has good feel for a mid-80s slider with quality shape and missed bats with it deep in counts. It’s a power arm here with immense upside and pounded the zone at a 64% clip. A lot of boxes Cheatham checks off as a high school arm and should be a name we hear a...

2026 MLB Draft Reports: 200-299 | 300-399 | 400-500 100. Lucas Nawrocki, LHP/1B, Aledo HS L-L, 5-11/197, Aledo, TX College Commitment: LSU Lucas Nawrocki put together a monster year on both sides of the ball, although the profile may be suited better for the mound in pro ball. Nawrocki features a stocky frame that works down the mound into a low-slot release. The fastball sits in the mid-90’s with carry to the top of the zone. It can reach spin rates near 2700 rpm. The left-hander can spin a slider exceptionally well. The pitch sits in the mid-80’s with big sweeping action and spin rates over 3000 rpm. A firm upper-80's changeup rounds out the pitch mix. At the plate, Nawrocki can provide some thump from the left side of the plate.  For more on Nawrocki, read his high school notebook here.   101. Hudson Devaughan, RHP, Mooresville HS R-R, 6-4/195, Mooresville, IN College Commitment: Alabama Hudson Devaughan features a projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 195-pounds. The fastball works up to 96 mph with more to come. It is thrown on a downhill plane. A sharp curveball pairs well off of it and can miss bats. A cutter and changeup round out the pitch mix, but still need to be refined.  201. Cole Stokes, RHP, Florida State R-R, 6-6/230, Redondo Beach, CA Previously Drafted: Never Drafted Cole Stokes is an imposing 6-foot-6 arm with loud stuff too. The fastball works in the upper-90’s with sink. It is paired with a sweeper that can miss bats at a solid clip. Significant command issues will need to be addressed in order for the potential plus stuff to play more consistently.  For more on Stokes, read his college report...

Gulf Coast Edge has continued to build momentum in championship play this week, advancing behind a combination of timely offense, strong pitching, and contributions throughout the lineup. The team features nationally ranked talent throughout the roster, but its recent success has been fueled by players embracing their roles and finding ways to contribute in key moments. Two players who embody that balance are outfielder Brayden Nims and fellow outfielder Nolan Richardson. Nims has helped lead the charge offensively as Gulf Coast Edge has advanced through the bracket. College Top 25: Final Update

Vincent Cervino
Article Image
With a postseason run for the ages, the Oklahoma Sooners (43-23) took home the National Championship and naturally finish the 2026 season as our No. 1 team in the land.  It is the third national title for the Sooners, playing in their 12th CWS and making their fourth championship series appearance.  They add to previous national titles won in 1951 and 1994 and did it by taking the most difficult path of any team in this year’s tournament.  In the NCAA Tournament, Oklahoma took down national seeds, No. 2 Georgia Tech twice, No. 3 Georgia twice, No. 5 UNC twice, No. 7 Alabama and No. 15 Kansas twice.  This was the second time that head coach Skip Johnson has led the Sooners to the CWS Championship Series since 2022 and the first time he has taken home the crown.  The North Carolina Tarheels (54-14) was one win away from their first national title and finish...
