17u BCS Scout Notes: Day 1

Jake Hunter (2021, Rockwell, N.C.) got the day started over at Jet Blue Park as the physical righthander showed a lot of things to like out of a workhorse frame. The 6-4, 225 pound righthander has immense physicality with a durable build overall and it showed as he was able to maintain his fastball velocity throughout the start, albeit a 40-pitch outing that will allow him to be fresh for bracket play. The delivery engages his lower half well with good extension toward the dish and the arm action is simple and loose as he whips it through a lower three-quarters arm slot. This creates running life on the fastball that mostly sat in the 87-89 mph range and showed good sinking action to the bottom of the zone. He sunk a couple changeups in the upper 70s and showed real feel and good shape to the breaking ball in the mid 70s and Hunter has a whole arsenal he can throw at you while he’s also super aggressive and a true competitor on the bump.
