8AM over at Jet Blue featured a talented uncommitted prospect in Baseball University’s Austin Newton (2022, Lutz, Fla.) as the 6-6 righthander has a lot of things to like. He’s very well-built with a durable starter’s frame as the delivery features solid extension and torso rotation down the mound from a longer arm stroke in the back. Besides the durability of the build and the ease of which he throws the fastball, he has a true three-pitch repertoire on the mound. Newton shows a breaking ball with good power and shape to it in the mid 70s while he also unveiled a couple of straight changeups in the upper 70s. The result wasn’t great for Newton during this look but for a rising junior who’s currently uncommitted he’s certainly worth a number of looks to play at the next level.
