Dwight “D.A.” Allen Using Summer for UGA Prep

MARIETTA, Ga. - Dwight Allen is the 14th ranked outfielder in the state of Georgia and it is easy to see why his ranking is so high. He is a 6-1, 200 pound all-around athlete out of Woodward Academy in Milton, Georgia, where he was also a heavily recruited football player. 

“Yeah, it is kind of a weird story now that I look back on it,” said Allen. “I actually transferred to Woodward my freshman year to pursue football and work to get to the next level.” 



Allen was offered scholarships to the following schools to play football at the collegiate level: Navy, Western Carolina University, Liberty University. 

After his sophomore and junior year of high school baseball, it became clear that he was more talented on the baseball diamond, so he began focusing solely on baseball, earning him a scholarship to the University of Georgia, one of the top SEC programs. D.A. (his nickname) was able to hit .400 his sophomore year back in 2018 and batted .321 with 21 RBIs his junior year at Woodward Academy in 2019. 

“I was able to really start hitting the ball my sophomore year and I just became more comfortable in the box and with baseball in general,” said Allen. 

Allen says UGA was the dream offer that he was waiting for, being that it is close to home as well as being the type of competition he wanted. He also mentioned that he loves the way Scott Stricklin, the UGA head baseball coach, carries himself and thus knows that he is in good hands in Athens. D.A. takes his studies very seriously and is planning to major in marketing while also minoring in international business relations. UGA is one of the premier academic colleges in the southeast, so it is not difficult to see why Allen will be taking his talents there. 

Allen did not have a high school season, so he used that time to work on his swing and his body. He has a younger brother, class of 2023 outfielder, Nicholas Allen, who was able to be a workout and throwing partner during the quarantine. 

“I got my brother Nick at home and we are both trying to get better so I could always count on him to throw with me,” said Allen. “My brother and I were able to go to Wills Park and hit on the field and cages and also work on our outfield skills.” 

“I mean when I am not playing, I really just enjoy relaxing,” said Allen. “The best times are just chilling with the bros and going to the pool or something, mainly just relaxing.” 

D.A. will be moving into his athletic dorm in Athens in 2 months and the time until then will go by quickly. He says he hopes to improve on his all-around game and become more mentally prepared for school in his last two months at home. Although D.A. will be leaving his Milton, Georgia home, he says he is excited to take the next step in his career and life. When asked which school he is most looking forward to playing against, Allen mentioned LSU and “The Box,” their stadium in Baton Rouge, LA that is known for their hectic and brutal fans. 

Dwight Allen’s piece of advice to those younger than him is to, “keep your head down and always be working harder than anyone else while staying focused.” 

D.A. and the rest of the eXposure 18U Prime will be competing for a spot in bracket play in the 18U WWBA National Championship this week.
