PG West Select Champs: Day 1 & 2

The second week of the PG West Select Championship kicked off at the Royals and Rangers spring training complexes in Surprise Arizona. This time the 13u, 15u, and 17u divisions took the field to show off what they’ve accomplished during the shutdown, with many players from the previous tournament returning with their respective teams. 


Trosky National 2023 started their tournament off with a win again. Uncommitted right hander Jacob Hudson (2023, Scotts Valley, Calif.) made another appearance on the hill, but this time in a starting role. Unfortunately for scouts, the Trosky offense exploded early and Hudson’s outing was cut short to save his innings for later in the tournament. Nonetheless, Hudson looked strong again on the hill, this time sitting 87-89 mph and filling up the zone with strikes. In this summertime tournament ball setting, it feels like he’s up there trying to light up the radar gun with a high effort delivery down the hill and majority fastballs. Don’t be mistaken though, his secondary stuff is very good and his pitchability is plus when it needs to be. On day two of the tourney he also impressed at the plate as he creates heavy leverage in his swing. His lower half and back hip fire on time and he’s able to create a good coil between his upper and lower half. He smoked a line drive to left for three RBI’s.
