Preseason National High School Top 50 | 2020 High School Baseball Preview Content

The first update to the HS Top 50 comes on the heels of the Perfect Game High School Showdown where three championships were claimed. No. 3 DeSoto Central (Miss.) holds steady after they captured the championship of the White Bracket and new entrants No. 28 Mountain Brook (Ala.) and No. 44 Loganville (Ga.) won the Blue Bracket and the Red Bracket, respectively.

The top five has some minor changes including American Heritage Plantation (Fla.) ascending to No. 2 as Tampa Jesuit (Fla.) holds down the No. 1 spot. DeSoto Central maintains their No. 3 spot as JSerra (Calif.) and Orange Lutheran (Calif.) round out Nos. 4-5, respectively. Early on in the season teams start out hot and sometimes cold, so there won't be too much shifting besides teams that have ventured to the extreme in either direction.

Six teams dropped out this week in Westminster Christian (Ga.), Russell County (Ala.), Houston County (Ga.), Smiths Station (Ala.), Miami Christian (Fla.) and Cypress (Calif.) New entrants to the Top 50 include the aforementioned Mountain Brook and Loganville along with No. 35 Lake Travis (Texas), No. 42 Park Vista Community (Fla.), No. 43 Ayala (Calif.) and No. 45 Flowery Branch (Ga.).

The Southeast, Florida and Pacific regions are all well underway throughout the regular seasons while the Southwest is getting underway. States like Tennessee and Nevada, along with NorCal, are just getting underway and we should have a clearer picture of the national stage as the wins and losses come through the column. Following the HS Showdown the next big event is The Boras Classic (Arizona) which will take place out West this weekend and will sure to be followed closely.
