CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Perfect Game released its Final 2019 National Travel Team Rankings in the 14u through 17u age groups last week (final 18u and 13u rankings were released at the end of the summer season).

The rankings shed light on which national organizations are the most prolific in terms of entering multiple teams into every prominent PG tournament in all six age-groups if, in fact, that participation proves to be beneficial to the young players within that program.

What follows is a look at numerous programs from across the country that finished the 2019 summer and fall seasons with multiple teams slotted into the rankings. Please note that this exercise is not done to diminish the accomplishments of the dozens of other highly regarded and respected programs that also fielded competitive teams this year – this is more of a sampling.

5 Star Baseball (Georgia/US)

With four teams ranked in the top-14 across four age-groups, the 5 Star program used 2019 to further cement its national reputation as it continued to branch-out from its Georgia base. Top-ranked 5 Star National 15u Dobbs made deep playoff runs at five of the major 15u tournaments on the PG schedule; it won the PG BCS 15u National Championship, was the runner-up at the PG WWBA 15u National Championship and reached the quarterfinals at the PG 15u World Series. 5 Star National 2022 Burress won the PG WWBA Sophomore World Championship with many of the Dobbs’ players.

Solid year-in and year-out, the 643 DP program consistently fields teams that enter tournament pool-play with eyes firmly set on advancing to bracket-play. It’s certainly noteworthy that 643 DP finished with at least one ranked team in five oldest age divisions.

Banditos Baseball Club (Texas/Florida)

The Houston-based Banditos is another organization that represents itself very well with each new season, and 2019 was no exception. Sporting its new “Banditos Scout Team” brand, the Banditos’ 13u, 14u and 15u Scout Teams all finished ranked in the top 11 nationally. The No. 9 Banditos ST 14u reached the semifinals at the PG WWBA Fall South Championships and the quarterfinals at both the PG WWBA 15u National Championship and the PG 15u World Series.

Canes Baseball (Virginia/US)

What another banner year it was for the nationally prominent Canes Baseball program. Eleven Canes’ teams wearing the familiar black-and-gold finished 2019 ranked in the top 48 in their respective age-groups, including No. 1 Canes National 17 (17u), No. 2 Canes National 15u (15u) and Nos. 4 Canes National 16u (16u) and Canes National 14u (14u). National 17 won both the PG WWBA 17u National Championship and the PG 17u World Series and was a semifinalist at the inaugural PG WWBA Elite Championship. The Canes National 15u won the PG WWBA 15u National Championship with a perfect 12-0-0 record and was co-champ at the PG 15u World Series.

The 17u Sparks 2020 Black finished as runner-up to the GRB Rays at the PG WWBA 17u Prospect Meadows National Championship; the 16u No. 10 Sparks 2021 Black made runs into the quarterfinals and semifinals at three national championship-caliber tournaments.

They really picked up the pace in the fall, winning two smaller PG tournaments before battling to a runner-up finish at the PG WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla. The 15u No. 6 Dirtbags 15u Tap Out was a semifinalist at the PG WWBA 15u National Championship and reached the round-of-16 at the PG WWBA Sophomore World Championship.

By placing two of its 16u teams and one of its 15u teams in the top 8 nationally, the Dodgers program once again emphasized quality over quantity in 2019. The No. 5 Dulins Dodgers 16u Ince won the PG 16u World Series on the heels of winning the 14u PGWS in 2017 and the 15u PGWS in 2018; the No. 8 Texas-based Dulins Dodgers 16u Godwin won the PG BCS 16u National Championship. The Dodgers 15u Wright was the co-champion at the PG 15u World Series.

With six teams ranked in the top 24 across six age divisions, ECB continued to be one of travel baseball’s standard-bearers in 2019. The No. 3-ranked East Cobb Astros 17u Navy recorded runner-up finishes at the PG BCS 17u National Championship, the PG 17u Elite Championship and the PG WWBA 18u National Championship during the summer. In the fall, they won the PG WWBA Southeast Qualifier #1 and reached the semis at the PG WWBA World Championship. The 16u No. 3 East Cobb Astros 16u won the PG Super25 16u National Championship and reached the quarterfinals and semifinals at two other prominent PG tournaments.

The 18u No. 8 eXposure 18u Prime is the highest ranked of the bunch, with the 16u Prime and 14u Prime both coming in at No. 20. The 16u Prime reached the second round of the playoffs at the PG WWBA 16u National Championship and won titles at three other more regional events. The 14u Prime was a playoff qualifier at the PG WWBA 14u National Championship and won two USA Playmaker Championships.

Florida Burn (Florida)

The Florida Burn organization not only wins championships but it wins championships with class and humility. The 17u No. 2-ranked Burn 2020 Platinum won summer championships at the PG BCS 17u National Championship and the PG WWBA National Championship Qualifier. They then made a playoff run at the PG WWBA Florida Qualifier before capping the year in sensational style by winning the program’s second straight PG WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla. The 16u No. 16 Burn 2021 Platinum were semifinalists at the PG WWBA Qualifier-Florida and at the PG WWBA Florida Qualifier, and quarterfinalists at the PG 16u BCS National Championship and the PG 16u World Series.

The Hurricanes 14u Platinum won the PG Super25 14u National Championship and the PG 14u Florida World Series, was the runner-up at both the PG BCS 14u National Championship and the PG WWBA 14u East Memorial Day Classic.

FTB Tucci-Cleveland 2022 was the pace-setter for the program, winning the inaugural PG 15u Florida World Series while also making deep playoff runs at the PG WWBA 15u National Championship, the PG BCS 15u National Championship and the PG 15u World Series. 17u No. 23 Giants Scout Team-FTB reached the playoffs at both the PG WWBA 17u National Championship and the PG WWBA 17u Elite Championship and reached the quarterfinals at the PG WWBA World Championship.

The Garciaparra Baseball Group (GBG) continued to expand out of its Southern California roots in 2019,, but it was its core, GBG Marucci Navy teams that had the most impact. Things reached a crescendo in September when No. 11 GBG Marucci 2020 Navy, No. 22 GBG Marucci 2021 Navy and No. 14 GBG Marucci 2023 Navy won championships at the PG WWBA Upperclass, Underclass and Freshman Fall Championships Protected by G-Form, respectively.

The Bombers’ program wasn’t able to land a team in the top 25 in any of the six age divisions but the Georgia Bombers 15u and 16u teams were just outside that threshold at Nos. 26 and 32 respectively. The Bombers 15u were quarterfinalists at both the PG WWBA 15u National Championship and the PG 15u Summer Showdown. The Bombers 16u were semifinalists at the PG WWBA Southeast Memorial Day Classic.

The Jackets 17u National came in at No. 31 after earning a spot in the semifinals at the PG Super25 17u National Championship and a quarterfinal appearance at the PG WWBA National Qualifier.

The Top Tier Roos held their own at the 15u, 16u and 17u age divisions while the Kangaroo Court Roos more than held up their end at 13u and 14u. In fact, the Kangaroo Court Roos American claimed the top position in the final 14u rankings thanks to championships at both the PG 14u World Series and the PG WWBA Freshman World Championship. The Top Tier Roos American 2022 reached the quarterfinals at the PG BCS 15u National Championship and the playoffs at two other PG national championship events and came in at No. 29.

Knights Baseball 14u Platinum came in at No. 19 after reaching the quarterfinals at the PG WWBA National Championship.

The Louisiana Knights organization was a model of consistency in 2019, placing six teams in the top 55 in all five of the age divisions in which it fielded teams. The top teams were the No. 13 Knights 15u Black and the No. 18 Knights 14u Black, both of which enjoyed nice playoff runs at PG national championship events; the Knights 14u Black were semifinalists at the PG WWBA Freshman World Championship.

This program’s 18u entrant finished at No. 12 in the final rankings thanks to a 6-1-0 finish at the PG WWBA 18u National Championship. Team Louisiana’s 17u team advanced to the round-of-32 at the PG WWBA World Championship and the second round of the playoffs at the PG WWBA 17u National Championship and came in at No. 37.

Ostingers Baseball Academy (Florida)

OBA had just one team in each of the 14u-17u age groups and all four were ranked in the top 51 at season’s end. The 17u No. 13-ranked OBA 2020 won the PG Super25 17u National Championship, was the runner-up at the PG WWBA Florida qualifier and a semifinalist at the PG WWBA 17u National championship. The No. 17-ranked OBA Reed 16u were semifinalists at both the PG Super25 16u National Championship and the PG 16u World Series Qualifier.

Scorpions Baseball (Florida/Georgia)

Riding high with its new “Founders Club” identity, the Scorpions Baseball organization maintained a constant presence at all of PG’s most high profile tournaments. The Scorpions 2021 Founders Club landed in the No. 2 spot in the final rankings on the strength of runner-up finishes at the PG 16u World Series and the PG WWBA Underclass World Championship, and a quarterfinal finish at the PG WWBA 16u National Championship; they finished in the round-of-16 in Jupiter. The 17u Scorpions 2020 Founder’s Club finished at No. 7 by claiming the championship at the PG WWBA Florida Qualifier, making a semifinal appearance at the PG WWBA World Championship and advancing to the playoffs’ third round at the PG WWBA 17u National Championship.

Team Elite (Georgia/US)

With teams ranked No. 1 at 16u, No. 2 at 14u, No. 5 at 17u and No. 7 at 15u, it’s impossible to overstate just how dominant the Team Elite organization was from top-to-bottom in 2019. Including honorable mention selections in the 17u, 16u and 15u age divisions, Team Elite finished with 18 ranked teams overall. The TE 16u Scout Team won the PG WWBA 16u National Championship with a perfect 12-0-0 record and was runner-up at the PG 16u Underclass Elite Championship. The Team Elite 14u National won the PG WWBA 14u National Championship and was a quarterfinalist at the PG 14u World Series. The TE 17u Scout Team won the inaugural PG WWBA 17u Elite Championship and made other deep runs and the TE 15u Scout Team was a semifinalist at the PG BCS 15u National Championship and also made numerous deep playoff runs.

Three US Elite teams had worked their way into the top 21 of their respective age division, led by the 15u No. 14 US Elite 15u National and the 17u No. 16 US Elite 2020 International squads. The USE 15u National reached the semifinals at the PG WWBA Freshman World Championship and the quarterfinals at the PG WWBA Sophomore World Championship. The USE 2020 International ST won the PG WWBA Florida World Series, was a semifinalist at the PG BCS 17u National Championship and a quarterfinalist at the PG WWBA 17u National Championship.

13u World Series Scout Notes: Days 1-2 Chaysten Fuentes (2030, Ewa Beach, HI) worked really well from the right side of the plate ending up with five hits and a double in the last two days. The right handed hitting Hawaiian has a ton of strength to the body. The hands work directly to the ball and can hit to all fields in the approach. Has done an incredible job getting the barrel to almost everything and gets on plane in the turn.  Triston Valdez (2031, Castaic, CA) was electric on day four batting .500 with a double, triple, and five rbis. The barrel is really quick to the ball and works with a level path. Against NY Gotham 13u Ghost, Valdez would not be denied demolishing the bases clearing triple way back into the RCF gap. Collegiate National Team: Stars Notes Quick Hits  Each year at the end of June and beginning of July, top collegiate baseball talent from around the nation arrives in Cary, NC at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.  Typically, the rosters are filled with top underclass, non-draft-eligible talent but this year, we will see a sprinkling of upper-classmen as the coaches evaluate just under 60 players to get to their final 28 roster spots.  For a total of two weeks, the Stars Squad and the Stripes Squad will compete against outside competition in North Carolina as well as Virginia before finishing their slate with 5-games against each other at the NTC Complex.  Once the final roster has been announced the team will depart for Taiwan to compete in the 2026 World Baseball Championships, July 11-15.    CNT Stripes Position Players  Nico Partida ...

Two days into the 2026 Perfect Game 15U National Elite Championship, the storylines are already beginning to take shape. As one of the summer’s premier invite-only events, the tournament annually brings together many of the nation’s top 15U clubs, with 100 elite teams traveling to Hoover in pursuit of a championship. While there is still plenty of baseball left to play, the opening rounds have already produced breakout performances, dominant team victories, and plenty of excitement heading into bracket play. Nolan Ash (2028, Ashland, Mo.) showed off the power upside for Natty State 2028. The right-handed hitter starts from a spread stance with in-line feet and a high handset with a high back elbow, utilizes a leg lift stride. Creates separation and uses a direct hand path with a slightly uphill bat plane and some feel to generate lift from the lower half. Quick hands and stays in-sync with a rotational lower half and solid bat speed. Showed the power belting a solo bomb over the left field fence. Long and lean 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame with wiry strength present and more room to fill. The shortstop has a high ceiling and feel for the barrel. It’s an exciting time for College Baseball. Not only do potential and proposed changes to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) elevate the game, but we are coming off a thrilling College World Series and less than a week away from Major League Baseball’s 2026 Amateur Draft. In the middle of it all is the Cape Cod Baseball League.  The amateur players on the Cape are the future stars of the 2027 MLB Draft. The league runs from June 13th  through August 2nd. Games are played at historic stadiums in Old New England towns. It’s beautiful and charming. Hollywood even made a movie about the Cape Cod League ~25 years ago called Summer Catch. More than 300 of the nation’s top 16u teams will meet in East Cobb, Georgia this week as the 16u WWBA Championship gets underway. Over 50 ranked teams from across the country will compete for one of the most prestigious titles in travel baseball, drawing scouts and fans from all over. Pool play will commence on Monday, July 6th with the championship game set for July 13th at the storied East Cobb Baseball Complex. Michael Wedgeworth (2030, Flomaton, AL) had put the two way ability on full display so far this week, dominating from both sides. On the mound Wedgeworth ran the fastball up to 84 (81-83) with ease to the delivery. Broke off a couple nasty curveballs that induced swing and miss, as well as freezing hitters for punch outs. Collected six in his four inning complete game. He also would not be denied at the plate going 3-5 in the first two days with two doubles. Very intriguing young player as the body continues to grow.  Tyler Bellush (2031, Summerville, SC) is a sure handed shortstop for the Canes Nation squad. Swings it from the left side of the plate and the barrel accuracy has really stuck out thus far. 3-4 through the first couple days with a double and two triples, Bellush has also walked twice and collected 3 RBI along the way.
