Sophomore PG Series Quick Hits

Parker Fronk

Starting on the mound for Deep South and absolutely dominating was Jace Jones (2021, Fort Myers, Fla.). Jones, who is committed to Florida Gulf Coast University, has been dominant all summer and he was once again on Wednesday. Jones threw four innings of no-hit baseball and he struck out 10 batters. He was overpowering hitters with his fastball that was up to 88 mph. His fastball has late life to it and he is able to throw it wherever he wants. His curveball has tight break to it at 75 mph and buckled multiple hitters during his outing. Jones has been an exciting pitcher all summer and will be a fun player to watch at the next level.

Patrick Demarco (2021, Sherman Oaks, Calif.) started on the mound for West and showed some solid stuff. His fastball was up to 86 mph and showed good command with it living down in the zone. His fastball has good arm-side run to it and he misses barrels constantly. Demarco has good mechanics and a smooth arm action as the ball jumps out of his hand. He pounded the zone and when he was ahead of hitters he would go to his 12-to-6 breaking curveball. It was 71-72 mph and he did a very good job keeping it in the bottom half of the zone. Demarco, who is committed to Penn State, threw 1 1/3 innings allowing only one hit and striking out two.

Game two starter for Mid South was righthander Trent Reddick (2021, Dallas, Ga.). Reddick did a very good job throwing strikes and commanding the zone. He ran his fastball up to 84 mph and he had good arm-side run to it. Reddick is 6-foot, 160-pounds and he has plenty of room to fill out and improve his strength, which subsequently will increase his velocity. He threw his fastball to both sides of the plate which elicited a lot of week contact all day. Reddick trusted his defense and pitched to contact during his outing. His curveball was 72 mph and was a tight breaker. Reddick threw three innings of no-hit baseball while striking out five.

Coming out of the ‘pen and relieving Reddick was righthander Blake Bridges (2021, Nixa, Mo.). Bridges came out and got ahead of hitters by attacking the zone. Bridges had his fastball up to 83 mph which had good run to it. At 6-foot-3, 175-pounds, Bridges has a long and lengthy frame and will continue to fill out. He threw his curveball at 63 mph and he was able to throw it for strikes consistently. Bridges threw one inning not allowing a hit and striking out two.

Playing shortstop for West was Brandon Escobar (2021, Henderson, Nev.). Escobar looked great all day at the plate and on defense. He is able to play any position on the infield and is a primary middle infielder. Escobar looked solid at shortstop making good plays and showing off a strong arm. At the plate he had a great day showing a smooth swing with good pop. Escobar looks to drive the ball early in counts and elevate into the gaps. Escobar went 3-for-3 with four runs scored, two doubles, one RBI and two walks on Wednesday.
