2019 Freshman PG Series Classic: Day 1 Quick Hits

Dominic Hellman (2022, Mill Creek, Wash.) showed some serious potential on Tuesday. Hellman is 6-foot-5, 195-pounds and has an athletic frame with great athleticism. He makes playing short look easy with his good hands and a strong arm across the diamond. As he matures and gets stronger he has the potential to become a corner guy with his big frame and strong arm. At the plate, Hellman shows some serious pop in his bat. He has the ability to drive the ball to all fields as he stays through the baseball very well. Hellman is a player to keep your eyes on over the next couple years as he continues to develop as a ballplayer. Tuesday he went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

Catching for Coastal on Tuesday was Jake Dresselhouse (2022, Highland, Mich.). He showed good athleticism behind the plate as he blocked balls well and has a strong arm. At 5-foot-10, 165-pounds he has a lot of room to continue to get bigger and stronger. At the plate, Dresselhouse has a smooth swing and finds consistent barrels. He went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

Another standout player for Coastal on Tuesday was Jake Cespedes Liriano (2022, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic). Liriano is 5-foot-11, 170-pounds and has an athletic build and shows good athleticism on the field. He looks to do damage while he is at the plate by driving the ball into the gaps. He has good present strength already and will only get stronger over the next couple of years. Liriano went 2-for-2 with a triple, one RBI and two runs scored.

Playing center field for South on Tuesday was Dakota McCaskill (2022, Tyler, Texas). McCaskill really stood out as his speed serves him well in the outfield and on the basepaths. He is 6-foot-4, 200-pounds and shows good athleticism with plenty of room to grow into his body, and he has a big frame with good strength already. McCaskill looks to drive the ball as he has good pull-side pop and shows confidence going the other way. McCaskill went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Ethan Smith (2021, Apo, Ae.) stood out Tuesday at the plate and at first base. Smith has a long and lengthy frame at 6-foot-3, 160 pounds and he will continue to fill out too. He is a big target for his infield at first base and shows good footwork around the bag. At the plate he looks to drive the ball and hit extra base hits. He hit fourth in the lineup for South and showed he can be a middle of the lineup kind of guy. Smith went 2-or-3 with a double.

Kenneth Gelaberth (2021, Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico) had himself a day for Puerto Rico on Tuesday. He went 3-for-3 on the day with one double, two RBI, and two runs scored. Also on the mound he threw one inning going three up and three down. Gelaberth has good swing at the plate and looks to elevate the ball to his pull side. He has calm hands with good extension through the baseball. Gelaberth will be a player to keep your eyes on while he is at bat during the week.
