15u Northeast: Day 2 Scout Notes

There was plenty of big time production and talent being flashed around long island on Day 2 of the 15u WWBA Northeast National Championship, beginning with Gino Manicchio (2022, Ossining, N.Y.) a 6-foot, 195-pound third baseman who has gotten off to a great start this weekend for Team Beast 2022. He added a 2-for-2 effort on day two to an already impressive day one, hitting .667 through three games. Manicchio, a large physical lefthanded hitter that starts from a narrow stance with a high back elbow, takes a long stride into his launch position where he is able to get his barrel out front to the baseball. He showed a good approach at the plate, flashing pull-side power and good recognition of the strike zone. At third base, Manicchio has good footwork and a strong accurate arm across the diamond.

Jaylen Hernandez (2022, Brooklyn, N.Y.) is a 5-foot-9, 190-pound third basemen who led the way offensively for Team Beast 15u in a morning win over Bethpage Eagles 15u. Hernandez, ranked on the follow list by Perfect Game for the class of 2022, was 2-for-3 with a towering solo home run to center field. A strong kid with a medium size frame, Jaylen starts with an even and balanced stance with high hand placement, using a small hand hitch as a swing loading mechanism. Hernandez does a good job staying square to home plate throughout his swing approach and takes a slight inside out bat path to contact.

Brandon Biggane (2021, Rensselaer, N.Y.) is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound catcher who continued to perform well on day two. In a morning game against Batting 1,000 Seminoles (McCormick), Biggane was 2-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBIs, helping the South Troy Dodgers to a 13-2 win. Possessing a medium frame with room to get stronger, Biggane starts in an even crouched stance with high hand position in his set up. Using a small hand load to get to a good even launch position, Biggane delivers the barrel out front with a short, quick swing that provides pull side power. Behind the plate he has good flexibility and advanced receiving skills  to go along with a quick release and accurate throwing arm.

Michael Sirota (2021, Queens, N.Y.) is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound shortstop and outfielder, who after an impressive day one followed up with another big afternoon. Once again showing off his offensive dominance and defensive versatility, Sirota has spent time at shortstop, second base, and in the outfield, showing comfortability in all three spots. The tools play wherever you put Sirota on defense as he has a great arm, good range, and great hands. He also showed off his power and pure speed on offense, going 3-for-7 with a pair of triples and a homerun to go along with six RBIs on the day. Sirota is making an early push for the all-tournament team while placing himself in the running for the MVP award if his NY Gothams 15u team can make a playoff run on Monday. Either way, Sirota has been fun to watch and has established himself as a top level prospect to keep a close eye on.

Max Pizzolato (2022, Monroe, Conn.), a 5-foot-11, 165-pound outfielder, was impressive in a doubleheader Sunday. Pizzolato finished 3-for-6 on the day with a home run and five RBI while scoring three runs. Pizzolato has a long and projectable frame with room to add size and strength. He has a balanced set up and starts his approach with a medium leg kick as his loading mechanism, followed by a quick and level bat path that enables him to get the barrel to his front side very efficiently. In the outfield, Pizzolato has good speed and instincts that allow him to track balls, and produce an accurate, above average arm with some carry.

Tyler Borwhat (2021, Glenville, N.Y.), a 6-foot-3, 180-pound outfielder, carried his Titans Elite team to a 12-6 win in game four of pool play, going 2-for-4 with two homeruns and six RBIs. Borwhat has a massive frame with wide shoulders and long arms that allows for room to add strength. Borwhat has an unusual body awareness for a young player with his build. He does a good job in keeping his body calm and in rhythm from his stance through his load and swing. Borwhat has present power to all fields, and looks to have a chance to develop his power into a plus tool as he fills out that frame.

Aidan Dolinsky (2021, New York, N.Y.), a 6-foot-4, 225-pound righthanded pitcher, has a large strong frame with long arms and big hands. Working from an abbreviated windup, Dolinsky has a long, deep arm circle with an overhand release point. Dolinsky has good arm strength and pitches off his fastball, sitting in the high-70s and low-80s, topping at 83 mph. Dolinsky throws an overhand 12-to-6 curveball that has great spin and good bite at the plate. While he had some command issues in his two-inning outing, Dolinsky flashed intriguing an interesting pitch mix and is a player to follow as he puts together consistency with his motion.

Antonio Pena (2021, Brooklyn, N.Y.), a 5-foot-10, 160-pound infielder and righthanded pitcher, was impressive in a short relief appearance today against the NY Gothams 15u (22). Pena threw two scoreless frames, sporting a low-80s fastball and topping out at 84 mph to go along with a high-60s breaking ball. Pena is very athletic, playing the infield when not on the mound with a loose clean arm circle.
