NE 16u Super Qualifier Recap


Weekend Recap: PG Super25 16u Northeast Super Qualifier

In a long weekend that featured more than 50 teams competing for a spot in the Super 25 national championship numerous players stood out, leading their teams throughout the weekend. On the mound and at the dish, players from all over the country culminated in creating an extremely competitive weekend. Here are some of the highlights from across South Jersey.


Friday


Anthony Solameto was dominant on the mound for the South Jersey Young Gunz on Friday night, tossing 4 shutout innings while compiling 10 strikeouts. A University of North Carolina Commit, Solameto topped out at 89 mph with his fastball and showcased a dominant slider from the left side. Ben Church stood out at the plate for the Young Gunz, collecting two hits and three RBIs.


Saturday

With a slate of more than 40 games to play, Saturday produced a number of outstanding performances. Luke Holman of Holman Hurricances 16u was outstanding on the mound. Holman struck out thirteen over the course of five innings, allowing only one hit while flashing a high 80’s fastball. Jake Kuperavage was also exceptional on the hill, going the distances for a complete game shutout. Kuperavage showed advanced command of all his pitches and an unmatched tempo on the mound. Jack Beauchesne also threw a complete game, resting in the mid-80s with his fastball and striking out 10 and allowing only one run.

At the plate Joey Kelly of PA Rebels College Goals paced all hitters on Saturday, racking up four hits including a home run to lead his team to an undefeated weekend. Andrew Spaan of Keystone Baseball Club 16u rapped out four hits on Saturday as well, homering and driving in three runs. Rando Carlo IV of Homan Hurricanes 16u doubled twice and drove in three runs en route to a Quarterfinals appearance for the Hurricanes.


Sunday  

Matt Garatty of of Rising Stars Gold came out firing on the mound at the tail end of the weekend, recording all 21 outs against the Staten Island Orioles. Garatty allowed only two runners to reach base, striking out four over a dominant outing. Holman Hurricanes put out another exciting pitching performance, as Chase Renner registered a five innings shutout performance on Sunday. Renner struck out seven while allowing only one hit. GSA Gatorz Orange got their second complete game performance of the weekend in the form of Kyle Peters. Over 21 outs Peters struck out only one but kept the opponent of balance the entire game, giving up only four hits.

Sunday produced fireworks offensively from the likes of Teddy Moos, who lit it up for All Out Scout Team 16u. Moos launched two longballs and drove in a ridiculous seven RBIs while also scoring three runs of his own. Wyatt Atkinson of Team Combat 16u sprayed the ball around on Sunday, notching four hits and six RBIs and stealing a bag. Rando Carlo IV continued to rake over the back half of the weekend, recording four hits on Sunday. Carlo continued to showcase gap to gap power, doubling twice and homering once for a huge Sunday performance.

After a long weekend of baseball, everything comes together on Monday, when the top remaining teams will compete in the final rounds of the playoffs to crown a champion. The championship game will take place at the Chelsea Heights turf field at 4 p.m.
