Photo: Ian Moller (Perfect Game)
About a dozen scouts lined up to watch game #1 at Independence High School between Hitters Academy from Racine, Wisconsin vs Iowa Select Sole/Frazier from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Top players from both states were scattered amongst both lineups with some getting looks for MLB's June Amateur Draft. The game ended in a 7-7 tie, however, this game and others were filled with many great performances this weekend. Some top performers are listed below with our new features on Top Pitchers and Top Hitters of each grad year for each weekend.

Top 2019 Performers

Pitcher of the Week: Nick Gottilla (2019, Davenport Assumption HS) made his first appearance of the Spring and did not disappoint. The lanky left hander ran his fastball up to 87 with some deceptive tailing action. His sharp breaking ball at 72 provides a great complementary pitch. Gottilla provides plenty of deception in his delivery and was very impressive in striking out eight in three innings pitched while showing good control, walking two. Gottilla is a fascinating left handed prospect with plenty of room to grow. University of Central Florida commit.

Also Considered:

Blake Grevengoed (2019, West Des Moines Valley HS) did not need any help getting outs this weekend for Iowa Sticks Pearson. Grevengoed struck out 12 batters over four innings and surrendered just two hits. The righty worked his fastball up to 85 mph with a curveball sitting 67-69. Grevengoed is the top 2B prospect in his class in the state of Iowa and is committed to DMACC.

Carter Petsche (2019, Dyersville Beckman HS) pitched two innings for Iowa Select Nordgren/Stroschein, picking up eight strikeouts, allowing no hits and walking just a single batter. Petsche flashed a fastball that ran up 80 with a slider that worked 69-72. Petsche is a Luther College commit.

Sam Goodman (2019 Western Dubuque HS) The Iowa commit was impressive in his first outing of the spring working three quick innings, scattering two hits and collecting three strike outs while topping out at 87 miles per hour with his fastball.

Max Hansen (2019, Calamus-Wheatland HS) cruised in his three innings of work for Iowa Select Nordgren/Stroschein, striking out six and allowing only a single hit. Hansen showcased plus control allowing no walks. Max's fastball worked in the low 80's with a tight spinning slider in the low 70's. Hansen is a Wartburg College commit.

Batter of the Week: Kyle Lehmann (2019, Western Dubuque HS) collected five hits this weekend including two doubles and five RBI. Lehmann also impressed on the mound with a fastball up to 83 and a curveball at 68 mph. Lehmann struck out six in three innings pitched. Lehmann is uncommitted.

Also Considered:

Jack Luster (2019, Ballard Community HS) continues to swing a very hot bat this spring, collecting four hits on the weekend, including 2 doubles. Jack has been on a tear this Spring, hitting .500 over 24 at bats with six extra base hits. Luster showed plus receiving skills behind the plate with good arm strength. DMACC commit.

Will Kranz (2019, Davenport Central HS) had a breakout weekend for DRBA Runnin Reds 2019/20, collecting four hits including a double and walking twice over two games. Kranz is now hitting .417 on the season and has scored seven runs. Kranz is a primary shortstop and is uncommitted.

Austin Simpson (2019, Fairfield HS) collected three hits, two going for extra bases and drove in two runs for Iowa Select Sole/Frazier this weekend. Simpson has a large strong build and has plenty of power potential as he grows into his body and improves his hitting tools. Good defensive actions around first base showing good range for his size. Simpson is committed to Southeastern Community College.

Lawler's fastball was the fastest we saw all day, topping at 89 with a mid 70's curveball to complement it.  Lawler is an University of Iowa commit.

Tyler Tscherter (2020,  Gladbrook-Reinbeck HS) pitched three scoreless innings for Iowa Select Sole/Frazier this weekend, striking out four while allowing just a single hit. Morris is another intriguing two way prospect as he has not allowed a single run in eight innings pitched this Spring. Trey is uncommitted.

His fastball has made a huge jump over the past few seasons now sitting 78-80 mph. His mid 60's curveball provided good depth as it kept hitters off balance. Clausen is also uncommitted.

Also Considered:

Caleb Dicken (2021, Dallas-Center Grimes HS) did it all on Friday night for Iowa Sticks Conrad. The righty was perfect through through innings and struck out nine players, running his fastball up to 80. His complementary pitch, his slider, was probably most impressive causing a ton of swing and misses coming in the upper 60's to low 70's. Dicken also crushed a HR and drove in five RBI on the weekend. Dicken is uncommitted.

Keian Secrist (2021, Liberty HS) threw two innings of no hit baseball for Iowa Select Brune/Rath against Hitters 2. Keian is another who has made who strides on his fastball, now sitting primarily between 82 and 85 mph, jumping up to 86 at times. Secrist has plenty of room to grow and could add even more velo to his fastball while he continues to polish mechanics. Keian is uncommitted.
