Tournament of Stars Standouts

The next stop on the summer circuit for many of the players who attended the Perfect Game National Showcase at Tropicana Field was the USA Baseball Tournament of Stars in Cary, North Carolina. The TOS, which hosted 80 players divided into four teams, is the first step in USA Baseball's process to select a 20-player team to compete at the 2018 Pan American Games championships in Panama in September.

Position Players

CJ Abrams, SS (2019, Alpharetta, Ga.): Abrams combines outstanding barrel control from the left side with some of the best running speed in this very speedy class. He hit line drives all over the field and ran a 3.94 to first base on one ground ball.

Christian Cairo, IF (2019, Clearwater, Fla.): Cairo doesn't have an impact tool or elite athleticism but is the kind of player who always seems to be on base or be making a play somewhere on the infield. That's the kind of player his father, Miguel, was for 17 years in the big leagues, so it shouldn't be a surprise.

Corbin Carroll, OF (2019, Seattle, Wash.): The speedy Carroll was one of the stars of the event, reaching base seemingly every time, showing plenty of gap power and causing havoc on the basepaths once he got on. It's very easy to imagine the final 18u team's first game lineup featuring the Washington native in the leadoff spot and playing center field.
