Hitdogs rally late to win 13u Major

EMERSON, Ga. – The 13u Motor City Hitdogs defeated Knights Baseball 13u Platinum by a score of 4-2 in the 2018 PG 13u Invitational (Major Division). Motor City put together a pair of runs late to seal the championship victory.

After each team went scoreless in the first inning, both teams drove a run across in the second inning and third inning. The first came across on a double play ball up the middle as Tyler Stepek would scamper home from third. Nolan Schubart drove across the second run of the game for the Hitdogs as he drove a double to left field scoring Blake Grimmer in the top of the third inning. Each team would go scoreless in the fourth.

After four innings the score remained tied at two, Wyatt Walker would lead off the inning with a double and later score on a groundout to shortstop. Stepek would deliver an insurance run doubling home the fifth run of the game. Sebastian Jaimes and Prestyn Carter would combine for a scoreless fifth inning as the game concluded and the Hitdogs were crowned champions.

The MVP of the tournament was Thomas Cooper of Knights Baseball 13U Platinum who batted 5-for-9 (.556) on the weekend with a pair of doubles and a pair of triples.

The MV-Pitcher of the 2018 PG 13u Invitational (Major Division) was Parker Brzustewicz. Brzustewicz pitched 5 2/3 innings on the weekend collecting two wins and struck out eight.

EBC scores early and often to win 13u Minor

EMERSON, Ga. – EBC-13 Barnes defeated the Walk Off Warriors in the championship of the 2018 PG 13u Invitational (Minor Division) by a score of 17-3. Putting together a pair of seven-run innings, EBC showed the offense often in the five inning run-rule contest.

The game was close early as each team mustered a run in the first inning. The Warriors put two across in the bottom of the second inning as did EBC in the top of the third. The Warriors were quieted by EBC’s pitching staff after the second inning when Gavin Trim came into relief. Trim pitched very well in relief going three scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out one.

With the score tied going into the fourth inning, the rout began. EBC put together their first seven-run inning. Lake Reed, Vaiden Ellis, and Tyler Arnold each had RBI hits in the inning.

The MVP of the 2018 PG 13u Invitational (Minor Division) was Ty Hester who went 8-for-13 (.615) during the event. Hester collected three doubles and four RBI on the weekend.

The MV-Pitcher of the tournament was Carson Beal from the Walk Off Warriors. Beal pitched 4 1/3 innings over three games allowing no runs and striking out five.

14u Hit Dogs with a championship of their own

EMERSON, Ga. – The out-of-state Motor City Hitdogs went on an impressive run to close out the tournament during the playoffs, culminating in an 11-4 victory over the Team Elite Prospects to secure the championship for the 14u PG Invitational Major Division. The offense was very loud over the course of the event as the Hitdogs tallied 32 runs over five games to capture the event.

Team Elite jumped out to a big 4-0 lead in the top of the first after a run-scoring hit followed by an absolute laser of a home run by designated hitter Jaden Anderson which pushed the lead to four. The Hitdogs responded with five runs of their own to take the lead in the bottom half of the frame. The middle of the order combination of Ike Irish and Brock Porter had been turning in dividends all weekend for the team, not to forget cleanup man Zachary Root who had a strong tournament of his own, as Irish and Porter went back-to-back with RBI extra base hits. Both players ended up at or above .500 for the entire event.

The Hitdogs kept the pressure on as they were right back two innings later with another five spot for the frame. The stage was set perfectly as with two outs and the bases loaded as Michael McAloose drove in a bases clearing triple to extend the lead to 10-4. The Hitdogs would push another run across in the bottom of the fourth before closing it out in the top of the fifth for the 11-4 victory.

David Lally was absolutely nails out of the bullpen for the Hitdogs as he tossed three and one thirds innings of scoreless baseball. Lally was able to quiet a demonstrably loud offense to only two hits on the evening after the four-run first.

Irish was named MVP of the tournament for the Hitdogs. He finished the tournament hitting .500 with more extra base hits than singles, including three triples, and four RBI. Sammy Leis of Team Elite was named the MV-Pitcher of the event after twirling one of the best starts of the weekend. Leis struck out ten batters over six shutout innings while only allowing three hits in his victory during pool play.

Team Elite dominates en route to 14u Minor title

EMERSON, Ga. – With a shutout victory in the championship game, Team Elite 14u Futures put an exclamation point on a very strong overall tournament with their 6-0 victory over the UTA Grinders. Team Elite only allowed two runs over the course of their six games with an absurd run differential of 51-2.

Team Elite ended up with a shutout thanks to the efforts of starting pitcher Justin Hannan and relief arm Brant Baughcum. Hannan tossed three and one-thirds innings of two-hit baseball while striking out six batters and Baughcum allowed only two hits and struck out one over one and two-thirds scoreless.

The game was a tightly contested affair until the fifth inning as UTA starting pitcher Will Taylor was unbelievable for four-plus innings. Taylor eventually ended up with the tough luck loss as he allowed only three hits through the four innings before Team Elite’s offense arrived in the bottom of the fifth.

Team Elite jumped on the relief pitcher and scored all six runs in the bottom half of the frame. The setting couldn’t have been better as the bases were occupied with runners when the top four of the order went back-to-back-to-back-to-back with singles, three of those singles being run scoring. Taylor pitched admirably for UTA but the offense couldn’t muster enough offense to bring UTA to victory.

The MVP of the tournament was Landon Rogers of UTA. Rogers ended the tournament hitting .538 with three RBI and five stolen bases. Adrian Roman of Team Elite was named the MV-Pitcher for Team Elite as he was very impressive during the semifinals. He tossed a complete game shutout while striking out twelve en route to the MV-Pitcher award.
