During the season Perfect Game scouts will be traveling to some of the top series to watch the very best players in college baseball. Those observations, captured with both written notes and video, will be shared in the College Player Database as linked above, notes that can also be accessed on the players' individual PG profile pages. Throughout the season select reports will be shared in feature format to promote the players, the teams and college baseball as a whole.

Tristin English, RHP, Georgia Tech

A Perfect Game All-American in 2014 and 39th round draft pick by the Indians in 2015, there aren't many players that have reached the accolades that English has done in his baseball career, who most recently was named a Midseason College All-American for his two-way talents. Unfortunately as a sophomore a year ago he had to miss the season due to Tommy John surgery.

On Sunday in the third game against Florida State, English started the game on the mound and in the cleanup spot as he usually does for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and there was a lot of buzz from scouts in attendance as he took the hill. While he wasn’t reaching the 95 mph peak velocity that he had reached at Perfect Game events in the past, he maintained a low-90s fastball for his entire outing which concluded after his sixth inning on the hill and showed a clean delivery and arm action in the process. And while he gave up eight hits over his six innings of work, he featured a pair of good breaking pitches to go along with his fastball and the velocity he threw at.

As far as the delivery and mechanics are concerned, the velocity comes easy. Standing at 6-foot-3, 214-pounds, the redshirt sophomore has a very athletic frame and it shows in his delivery. He gets down the hill and out over his front side well. The arm is clean and works well but has a little shorter action than the full arm circle. English’s fastball is pretty straight but the command of the pitch on this day was very good, helping he and the Yellow Jackets earn a win and clinch the series over Florida State.

Joey Bart, C, Georgia Tech

A highly regarded prospect and one of the top available catchers for this year’s MLB Draft, Joey Bart did not have many chances to display the tools behind the dish in Georgia Tech's weekend series against Florida State but did so at the plate all weekend long. On Friday night, the junior hit a home run to his pull side and showed big-time raw pop in batting practice as well. The bat speed is outstanding as well as the strength that Bart presents in his swing. He did show a concerning number of swings and misses on the weekend, however. Especially on breaking pitches down in the zone, Bart chased on several occasions and led to his four strikeouts in the three-game series.

He did get the chance in the final game to show off his catch-and-throw talents by nabbing a would-be basestealer. While setting up on the inner half of the plate to a lefthanded hitter, Bart had to stab a ball that was low and way outside to the hitter. He gathered the ball cleanly with ease and fired a strike to the bag to throw the runner out easily.

Austin Pollock, LHP, Florida State

Florida State sent freshman Austin Pollock to the mound in the rubber match of their series with Georgia Tech on Sunday. The hometown lefthander from Tallahassee is not draft eligible again until 2020, but he was taken in the 2017 draft by the Cardinals out of high school. As he showed on this day Pollock looks to be a big-time name early on for the 2020 draft as he has limitless projection to his frame that already produces a fastball up to 91 mph. Starting in the rotation for a highly touted program like Florida State is impressive enough, but Pollock does so well and could likely be a Friday night arm for the Seminoles in the coming years.

The stat line may not show his talents, but his curveball was the pitch that really showed how well Pollock could be. The late-breaking pitch has 1-to-7 shape and lots of depth. With nearly flawless mechanics, his low-90s fastball and a big breaking ball that could be considered a plus pitch to some scouts, it is easy to see why legendary coach Mike Martin has Pollock toeing the rubber each weekend.

Mike Salvatore, SS, Florida State

In a game three blowout against Georgia Tech, there were few bright spots for the Noles, but one very good all-around player that stood out was shortstop Mike Salvatore. Collecting three hits in the final game of the series and going 7-for-12 (.583) on the weekend, Salvatore was in a hot zone all weekend long finding the barrel consistently well. The New Jersey native sprayed the ball all over the field with his compact swing and showed outstanding barrel control in doing so. The former 19th round draft pick also played a strong shortstop during the weekend series making all plays and showcasing soft and sure handedness.

Michael Brettell, RHP, Central Michigan

Slotting in behind Pat Leatherman in the Chippewa rotation, junior righthander Michael Brettell gives Central Michigan a very legitimate 1B to Leatherman's 1A, though Brettell is the better professional prospect at this point. He's a solidly, athletically built righthander with a plus body, though there is some stiffness to his operation.

Everything, as seems to be the case with CMU pitchers, is pretty efficient when it comes to Brettell's mechanical profile. Whether he's out of the windup or the stretch, there isn't much in the way of extraneous movement when it comes to the delivery, loading his back hip with a bigger leg lift and driving downhill with authority. He's got a bit of a closed-toe, short-stride landing spot, but that does nothing but help him to sink the ball, which is his specialty.

The arm action is very short and compact overall, and while there's some tightness to the arm stroke, it's efficient in its overall path and there's solid arm speed there as well, and he releases from a tighter three quarters arm slot. The sinker is, in a word, dynamic. He peaked at 93 mph with it, holding 88-92 mph throughout the entirety of his extended outing, and featuring the best sink I've seen from anyone thus far in 2018. It's absolutely hellacious vs. righthanded hitters, with so much movement that he got a significant number of swings-and-misses over the top of it vs. righthanded hitters.

He really doesn't throw his offspeed stuff much given the effectiveness of the sinker at this level, but it shows promise nonetheless. Both the changeup and slider are thrown in the low-80s range, and they work off of each other well. The slider was better on this day, flashing average once or twice with solid tilting action, tunneled well out of his hand. The changeup was more below-average, a bit easier to read out of his hand, though still with some fading action that won't miss bats vs. lefthanded hitter but at the very least can serve to keep them off of the fastball a bit.

We're going to slot Brettell into the 8-12 round range on our draft board, given the potential one-pitch relative dominance utility he may have. There's some serious right-on-right reliever potential here in bullpen stints, as he's likely to be more mid-90s in short stints as be an excellent platoon matchup.

Connor Wollersheim, LHP, Kent State

A bit of a swingman for Kent State thus far in 2018, Connor Wollersheim has done a fair bit of both relieving and starting for the Golden Flashes thus far. He's operating as the Saturday starter for head coach Jeff Duncan right now, and wasn't at his sharpest against Central Michigan during their weekend series, uncharacteristically without his command, working 4 1/3 innings and allowing two hits and five walks, resulting in five earned runs.

Wollersheim is a long, lean lefthanded pitcher with solid athleticism and overall looseness. The delivery itself is relatively generic, with some drop-and-drive elements to it, getting online with his hips and driving downhill. The arm stroke, while loose and pretty clean despite a bit of a soft stab through the back, is below average in terms of arm speed at this point. He worked in the 84-87 mph range, creating some angle to the plate and showing the ability to sink the pitch down in the zone, though his lack of command prohibited him from doing that consistently.

He showed two variations of a breaking ball, with a sharper slurve-like pitch in the mid-70s with 2-to-8 shape and some bite, along with a more traditional looking curveball in the lower-70s that he tried to use to steal strikes and change eye levels. There's definitely some utility as a starting pitcher in the MAC to Wollersheim's profile, but that is almost entirely dependent on his command, which he didn't have on this day.

With a postseason run for the ages, the Oklahoma Sooners (43-23) took home the National Championship and naturally finish the 2026 season as our No. 1 team in the land.  It is the third national title for the Sooners, playing in their 12th CWS and making their fourth championship series appearance.  They add to previous national titles won in 1951 and 1994 and did it by taking the most difficult path of any team in this year’s tournament.  In the NCAA Tournament, Oklahoma took down national seeds, No. 2 Georgia Tech twice, No. 3 Georgia twice, No. 5 UNC twice, No. 7 Alabama and No. 15 Kansas twice.  This was the second time that head coach Skip Johnson has led the Sooners to the CWS Championship Series since 2022 and the first time he has taken home the crown.  The North Carolina Tarheels (54-14) was one win away from their first national title and finish...

The big-bodied southpaw got the ball in a short relief outing and continues to show why he’s ranked as the #1 pitcher in the class. The fastball has explosive life out of the hand and comes out easy, working in the 93-95 range, up to 96 mph once. He rounds out the mix with a firm slider in the mid-80s along with a changeup in the same velo range with arm-side fading action. The Mississippi State commit is a proven strike thrower with premium stuff and is one of the highest follows of the summer for professional scouts. Grant Sperandio (2027, Houston, Tx.) was...

The team features nationally ranked talent throughout the roster, but its recent success has been fueled by players embracing their roles and finding ways to contribute in key moments. Two players who embody that balance are outfielder Brayden Nims and fellow outfielder Nolan Richardson. Nims has helped lead the charge offensively as Gulf Coast Edge has advanced through the bracket. One of the most highly regarded players in the country, ranked No. 9 overall nationally and the No. 4...
