Class of 2022 Follow List

Click on the links above for a follow list of players that have already emerged in the class of 2022. Scouting reports are available below for the four players that are initially on the Top 1000 list. While it is to early to rank these players numerically we will later on in 2018 and there will also be state-by-state rankings once we have had a chance to see more of these players and follow their progress. Between now and Labor Day of 2018, Perfect Game will continue to evaluate players of all ages while ultimately hand-picking the 40 best 14u players from across the country as we build towards the third annual PG Select Baseball Festival in Fort Myers, Florida.


Ryan Clifford, of, Raleigh, N.C.
Before even entering eighth grade, prominent college programs are fully aware of who outfielder Ryan Clifford is and more than a handful wouldn’t think twice about committing the young outfielder. His tools stack up with those a couple years older than Clifford and his performances this summer and fall may have actually exceeded them. Clifford is already listed at a very believable 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, he oozes confidence at the plate on virtually every pitch he sees and he can already drive balls out of the park with wood from the left side. At the 15u WWBA World Championship this summer (if he was playing in his age it would have been 13u), Clifford hit a resounding .615 with two home runs from the heart of the order and continued to play up, hitting in the top third of the Canes’ lineup in Fort Myers during the Sophomore World Championship. Clifford is simply different with the bat at this age, from the path and the bat speed, the advanced approach and the overall results.

Ethan Anderson, c, Virginia Beach, Va.
Ethan Anderson can lay claim to being the first player in his grad class to give a verbal commitment, doing so with in-state powerhouse Virginia. Anderson certainly doesn’t look like your typical eighth grader at a physical, yet obviously still projectable 6-foot-1, 185-pounds, and his performances on the field match his impressive stature. A focal point in recruiting classes is to identify and commit a talented catcher early in the process as they are less available than other players at other positions, and if his skills hold true over the next four years then the Cavaliers have nothing to worry about. Loose and flexible behind the plate with his actions, as well as present arm strength on his throws, you can’t help but notice his abilities both behind the plate and at it. Playing up this summer at the 14u level rather than 13u, Anderson went on to hit .300 before making a big splash at the WWBA Underclass World Championship as he hit .500 on the tournament while showing looseness and balance, as well as projectable pop, from either side.

Logan Forsythe, rhp/of, Woolmarket, Miss.
It’s easy to stand out when you’re throwing 84 mph in January of your seventh grade year and Logan Forsythe hasn’t slowed down any as he continues to develop on the mound, all while looking like he’s playing a game of catch. A young native of Mississippi, Forsythe has already established his name on the national circuit among college coaches as he already has been up to 88 mph and participated in the 15u Team USA Trials, alongside Ryan Clifford, where they were the two youngest in attendance. Along with the present velocity, Forsythe shows late sinking life down in the zone with his fastball which couples nicely with his sharp breaking ball, both of which are thrown with minimal effort and help suggest additional velocity with physical gains. He also batted.579 at the 13u PG World Series and went yard twice. While it’s difficult to forecast where he’ll end up down the road, with his abilities on the mound and the physical projection he appears to have a very bright future on the bump.

Blaise Grove, lhp, Summit Point, W.Va.
It doesn’t take long for Blaise Grove to stand out as the recently turned 14-year old stands 6-foot-4, 210-pounds. He stood out at the WWBA Freshman World Championship as college recruiters settled in behind Grove’s backstop, coming from other fields to watch the towering lefthander. With his size, age, and handedness, low-80s readings with his fastball would have been more than enough to enamor the college coaches, but he showed a tick better, bumping as high as 86 mph with his fastball before showing 88 mph later in the fall. As his profile indicates, Grove’s velocity has been on a steady uptick since April, peaking at 81 mph before 83 mph then 85 mph before his two most recent outings and there’s no reason to believe that will change. As he continues to grow into his frame and refine his delivery Grove should continue to see improvement on his arsenal, though it’s already an advanced fastball and one he’s able to generate without much effort.
