Player of the Year: Dougie Parks, 3b, Lafayette (Eastern Illinois)
Pitcher of the Year: Brad Depperman, rhp, Lafayette (North Florida)

In a year where the Prospect League shrunk from 12 teams to 10, there was no shortage of competition with quite a bit of parity throughout the league from top to bottom. Butler and Lafayette won their respective divisions, with Butler taking the overall regular season title with a record of 37-23; though Lafayette came storming back in the championship series to end up winning the postseason championship, and thus were crowned champs of the league.

From a prospect perspective, there was a quality mix of young, exciting talent and steady upperclassmen who took a big leap towards their ceilings throughout the summer. The No. 1 prospect in the league, Brad Deppermann of North Florida, really came on following his first really healthy season of collegiate baseball in the spring. He was simply dominant for Lafayette this summer and had scouts excited about what his future holds now that he’s finally healthy.

Top 5 Prospect Reports

1. Brad Depperman, rhp, Lafayette (North Florida/SR in 2018)
After not pitching a whole lot through his first three collegiate seasons due to injury issues, Depperman finally showed off what he could do at full health this summer in the Prospect League. He ended up being named Pitcher of the Year by the league, and it’s hard to argue that given that he struck out 108 hitters in 59 2/3 innings, pitching to the tune of a 2.11 ERA in the process. Depperman has shown live stuff dating back to his prep years, but now that he’s fully healthy, the stuff is fully back and is better than ever according to evaluators who saw him in the Prospect League. Capable of working in the 90-94 mph range with his fastball, Depperman does a good job keeping the pitch down in the zone and mixing in a sharp, late-breaking slider that he missed quite a few bats with. He should draw solid draft interest as a senior reliever with a quality 1-2 punch of pitches.
