April 11 Top 25Top 150 Junior College Prospects

For the what seems like 37th week in a row, Chipola (Fla.) retains the top spot in the JuCo Top 25 team rankings. The Indians have been tremendous all season, posting a 37-7 record and a 17-3 in-conference mark, and to be completely fair they haven't really even been challenged for the No. 1 spot yet.

Jones County (Miss.) retains the No. 2 spot on the heels of another undefeated week; they're 33-1 overall with a sterling 15-1 conference record. LSU-Eunice moves back up a spot to No. 3 this week, while Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) finds themselves in their highest ranking spot to date at No. 4. McLennan (Texas) rises three spots this week into the top 5, and finds themselves at No. 5 overall.

Santa Rosa (Calif.) lost a weekend series to a fellow-ranked San Joaquin Delta team, and as such fell three spots to No. 6. Santa Fe holds steady this week at No. 7 while Dyersburg State continues their winning ways and rises a spot to No. 8. Iowa Western has caught fire after a relatively slow start as they sit at 29-10 overall and are No. 9 overall, while San Jacinto (Texas) remained static at No. 10.

The lone newcomer this week is El Camino (Calif.), checking in at No. 20 for their rankings debut, with a 33-2 record including a 17-0 in-conference mark to their credit.

Prospect Spotlight: Chipola
The Chipola Indians have eight current players on the Top 150 JuCo prospect list, and three of them – righthanded pitcher Bowden Francis, third baseman Andrew Bechtold, and outfielder/first baseman Reynaldo Rivera have been especially tremendous this season. Francis is currently 9-2 on the mound with a minuscule 1.53 ERA in 58 2/3 innings, having allowed only 35 hits and 13 walks in those innings to go along with 56 strikeouts. Bechtold has been as hot a hitter as any in junior college baseball, currently slashing .459/.568/.747 across nearly 200 plate appearances with 10 doubles and 10 home runs to go with a team-leading 52 RBI, as well as the team lead in stolen bases with 18. Rivera is right there with Bechtold as far as overall production, slashing .444/.558/.770, which puts his OPS at 1.328, with Bechtold's checking in at 1.315. Truly ridiculous video game numbers from all three, and just the snapshot of those production numbers helps tell the story of why Chipola has been the No. 1 ranked team all season.

Rankings are based on games through Sunday, April 16.
